ASC Meets WA Jazz Project
It was a jazz-filled, swinging time as our music students had the incredible opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the world’s finest musicians! The Centre for Performing Arts came alive on Thursday 14 May, as our community was treated to an outstanding display of jazz musicianship by the Western Australian Jazz Project.
Students and audience members alike were inspired by the energy, skill and professionalism on display, with the big band sound filling the room and creating a truly memorable atmosphere. It was particularly exciting to see our students step into the world of a professional ensemble, experiencing first-hand what it is like to be part of a large band and learning directly from seasoned performers.
Throughout the event, students benefited from expert mentoring, ensemble playing and the nuances of jazz performance. Opportunities like this not only build musical skills but also spark confidence and a deeper appreciation for the art form.
A huge thank you to Adrian, Gavin and the entire team at the WA Jazz Project, along with HotHouse Company and the All Saints’ Music Department, for making this enriching experience possible. We are incredibly grateful for your support in inspiring the next generation of musicians.
Year 12 Outdoor Education Cape to Cape Expedition
In early May, the Year 12 Outdoor Education General class embarked on the Cape to Cape journey. Over four days, we hiked from Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse to Gracetown. We were fortunate to have clear, sunny skies and crystal blue waters.
Day 1 started strong. We completed the first stretch of our hike, leaving from Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and arriving at Mt Duckworth campsite before nightfall. Whilst the first part was challenging as we were still getting used to the packs, the downtime at night, as well as the stunning views, made it very worthwhile. The rest of the hike only got better and better.
From cooking on Trangias to bonding over the ukulele, swimming at Yallingup Lagoon and The Aquarium, stargazing, and even hiking in the dark, the trip was unforgettable. It was the little moments we shared with one another that will stick with us for a very long time.
On top of this, we further developed many practical skills, such as setting up tents and hootchies, learning how to correctly put on and pack our bags so the weight was properly distributed. We all learnt new skills that helped contribute to the fun we had as a class.
Some of the highlights from the expedition were walking in the dark and seeing the sunrise over Smiths Beach, seeing the Milky Way while stargazing on the edge of a sand dune, and singing 'Riptide' by Vance Joy in the dark under the stars.
A big thank you to Mr Stevens and Ms Mroz for supporting this amazing experience.

Year 12 Geography Excursion
The Year 12 Geography class recently travelled to the Hills Discovery Centre. Students were able to measure ecosystem health in the Perth hills through direct biodiversity observation and data collection. Encounters with species such as black cockatoos, echidnas, ring tail possums and other endemic mammals highlighted key threats, including habitat loss and introduced predators. The evidence gathered provides valuable support for students’ depth studies, enhancing their understanding of the pressures facing native species and native vegetation. It also strengthens examination preparation by linking real-world data to course concepts, while highlighting the importance of conservation initiatives like the Western Shield program in protecting biodiversity and supporting ecosystem resilience.
Flexi Fridays
The past few weeks have been a hive of activity for our Senior School students. Alongside the regular workshops and study sessions offered on Fridays, a range of additional support classes has assisted students in the lead-up to exams.
Our Year 11 and 12 students attended English and Literature revision sessions facilitated by our wonderful staff members, Ms Bowyer, Mrs Dowling and Mrs Saunders. Mr Goor hosted a Physics workshop, giving students the opportunity to seek clarification and access additional support ahead of their exams.
Year 11 students enjoyed an engaging and interactive presentation from Dr Jane Genovese, who shared a range of effective study and revision techniques, with follow-up resources provided for students to use in their own preparation.
Amidst the busy academic schedule, students have also embraced the importance of balance and wellbeing. During Period 6, a group of Year 11 and 12 boys enjoyed a spirited game of basketball, while many others appreciated the light-hearted atmosphere of the indoor games room.
We wish all students undertaking ESTs, exams and work placement hours the very best over the coming weeks.

Year 10 - 12 French Excursion
At the end of Term 1, French students from Years 10 to 12 attended the French Film Festival at Luna Leederville Cinema, organised by Alliance Française de Perth.
The excursion enhanced classroom learning by providing students with an opportunity to experience authentic French language and culture through film. Viewing Les Musiciens strengthened their understanding of how French cinema complements their studies, particularly through its focus on language, culture and character development.
All students enjoyed the outing with their friends, with the Year 12 cohort particularly appreciating their final All Saints’ French Film excursion. Students across Years 10–12 reflected positively on the experience highlighting it as engaging and memorable.

Keys4Life
Our Year 10 students have been involved in the Keys4Life Program, a Western Australian pre‑driver education initiative that supports road safety and responsible decision‑making before students begin driving.
As part of the program, all Year 10 students attended the RAC streetsmart event in Term 1, experiencing a realistic crash re‑enactment and hearing powerful messages from emergency service personnel and people impacted by road trauma. In Term 2, selected students also took part in the RAC On the Roads presentation, focusing on fatal factors on Western Australian roads.
These experiences, along with engaging in‑class activities, have helped students build essential knowledge of road rules, road safety and the importance of making safe choices as future drivers.
ASC Loraxes
The ASC Loraxes were buzzing with excitement as we welcomed friend of the College and SERCUL Education and Promotion Manager, Natasha Bowden, for a fascinating Mozzie Wise session.
Natasha taught us all about mosquitoes and their surprising role in the ecosystem—from how they fit into the food web to their benefits as pollinators and a food source for other animals. We also learned why it’s important to stay mozzie‑smart, including how to protect ourselves from mosquito‑borne diseases by remembering the 4 Ds: Dusk and Dawn, Defend, Drain and Dress.
Students became mini scientists as they examined mosquito larvae up close under a microscope and then headed out around the College to investigate where mosquitoes like to live and breed.
A huge thank you to Natasha and SERCUL for an engaging, hands‑on and eye‑opening session that left us all a little wiser (and more prepared) when it comes to mozzies!
