School Review

This week, Belmont High School has been undertaking our mandatory four-year school review process. As part of this important work, we have welcomed external reviewers and challenge partners to the school, including Glenn Morris (Doncaster SC – Principal) and Sarah Foley (Bellarine SC – Asst Principal), who have spent time observing classes, speaking with staff, students and parents, and helping us identify both our areas of strength and the next steps in our ongoing improvement journey.

The review process provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on the tremendous work occurring across our school while also setting a clear direction for future growth. Across the two days so far, reviewers have commented positively on the strong sense of community, the engagement of our students, and the commitment of staff to continually strive for improvement.

A big thank you must also go to Christopher McAvaney – School Council President, who generously gave up a significant amount of time across the review days to support this important process.

We conclude the final stage of the review next week, and I look forward to sharing with our community the key priorities and direction that will shape Belmont High School’s next four-year strategic plan.

Year 9 Morrisby Interviews – Supporting Future Pathways

As part of our commitment to helping students explore their strengths and consider future possibilities, our Year 9 students will soon participate in their individual Morrisby interviews. These interviews follow the completion of the Morrisby careers assessment earlier this term, providing students with personalised insights into their interests, aptitudes, and potential career pathways.

The one-on-one interviews, conducted by qualified career practitioners, will take place over next week and give each student the opportunity to reflect on their results, ask questions, and begin to consider their future educational and vocational goals.

We see this as a valuable step in our school’s broader approach to careers education and supporting students to make informed choices. We encourage families to talk with their child about the process and the ideas that come from these conversations.

If you have any questions about the Morrisby program or the upcoming interviews, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Careers Team.

Kokoda Trek

As part of our commitment to providing students with rich experiences beyond the classroom, 14 Belmont High students will soon embark on the incredible journey of walking the historic Kokoda Track, departing on the 1st of June.

The Kokoda experience is far more than just a trek. It is an opportunity for our students to challenge themselves physically and mentally, build resilience, strengthen teamwork, and gain a deeper understanding of one of the most significant chapters in Australia’s military history. Walking in the footsteps of those who served along the Kokoda Trail provides a powerful connection to the sacrifices and courage shown by so many Australians during World War II.

I have no doubt that this experience will leave a lasting impact on all involved and provide memories and lessons that will stay with our students for many years to come.

A huge thank-you must go to Matt Hosking and Erin McKenzie, who will be accompanying and supporting our students throughout this journey. Opportunities like this simply would not be possible without the dedication, care and willingness of staff to give up their own time to support our young people in such unique experiences.

We wish the entire group all the very best as they prepare for this incredible adventure and look forward to hearing about their experiences upon their return.
