Grip Leadership Conference

The Grade 6 students recently attended the GRIP Leadership Conference, where they enjoyed the opportunity to step outside the classroom, connect with one another, and explore what effective leadership looks like. Throughout the day, students reflected on the values of leadership, learning how they can better support their peers, contribute positively to the school community, and make a difference beyond the classroom.

Our students demonstrated great perseverance as they navigated personal challenges throughout the conference,  whether that was managing large crowds, speaking with new people, or stepping onto the stage in front of others. Despite these challenges, they embraced every opportunity to learn, absorb new ideas, and celebrate their own individual successes. I am incredibly proud of the courage, resilience, and enthusiasm they showed throughout the day.

Social and Emotional Learning

In SEL, students explored productive and unproductive coping strategies and reflected on healthy ways to manage stress and challenges. They discussed how coping strategies can help us feel calm, supported, and ready to keep going when things become difficult.

Students explored a range of positive coping styles, including energetic activities like sport and exercise, self-calming strategies such as drawing or listening to music, social connection through talking with others, shifting attention through hobbies, and getting organised by making plans or lists.

The most important takeaway from these discussions was that everyone needs something different to help them regulate their emotions, what works for one person may not work for another. Students also recognised that when emotions are high, it can be difficult to know what we need in the moment, which is why teachers are here to support and guide students towards positive coping choices and strategies.

School values

Throughout the week, teachers have been recording and acknowledging students who consistently demonstrate the expected behaviours linked to our school values. This process helps ensure students are not simply “talking the talk,” but actively showing these positive behaviours throughout the day in classrooms, playgrounds, and learning spaces.

The data collected supports students in recognising the positive choices and actions they are making to work towards earning their technology time on Fridays. At Cowwarr, we want students to be accountable and reflect on the ways they are helping the school be a better place for everyone.

Success in our learning!

It has been wonderful to see students experiencing success in their learning, particularly in Numeracy. Students are growing in confidence and developing a clearer understanding of the learning process, with many now able to approach tasks with greater independence and self-assurance. It has been fantastic to watch their persistence, problem-solving skills, and confidence continue to strengthen throughout the term.
