AUSLAN
Auslan End of Term 2 Newsletter
This term all students attended an Auslan incursion with a member of the Deaf Community, Naomi from Auslan Education Services. Students were able to ask questions about what it is like to live as a deaf person, how she communicates with her cats and if she was born deaf. Additionally, they enjoyed engaging with songs and activities around topics they had learnt in lessons and were able to show off their fingerspelling and alphabet skills.
Some topics that were covered in Term 2 included appropriately gaining attention and being aware of Deaf Culture, Sea Animals, Days of the Week, Months of the Year, Feelings, Weather, Greetings and Everyday Questions.
Students have enjoyed bringing together signs they have learnt to talk about themselves, their drawings, their favourite things and their creative short stories. It has been fantastic to see confidence grow as students begin to bring signs into their everyday school life.

LEVEL 6 KINO FOR KIDS EXCURSION
On 21 May 2026, all Level 6 students attended the German Kino for Kids excursion at the Palace Balwyn Cinema. Students enjoyed watching the German film Das geheime Stockwerk (The Secret Floor), which provided an engaging opportunity to experience the German language and culture beyond the classroom.
The excursion was a wonderful learning experience, and students thoroughly enjoyed the movie, along with popcorn and a drink during the screening. It was fantastic to see our students enthusiastically participating in this special German language event.
LEVEL 5 SPASS MIT DEUTSCH
On Monday 11 May 2026, our Level 5 students attended the Spaß mit Deutsch (Fun with German) Day at Heathmont Secondary College.
Throughout the day, students participated in three engaging rotation activities: a German art activity, European handball, and a Schnitzeljagd (scavenger hunt). The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their German language skills, learn about German culture, and collaborate with students from other schools.
We were extremely proud of the way our students represented our school, consistently demonstrating our values of Resilience, Respect, and Kindness throughout the day.
GERMAN POETRY COMPETITION
The AGTV (Association of German Teachers of Victoria) German Poetry Competition has been running for over 30 years and provides a wonderful opportunity for students to enhance their German language skills, build confidence, and connect with other German learners from across Victoria.
On Tuesday 16 June, students interested in participating in this annual event auditioned by reciting a German poem to Frau Lindner and Frau Schon. We were impressed by the enthusiasm, courage, and preparation demonstrated by all students who took part.
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to represent Rangeview Primary School at the Regional Final, to be held at Mullauna Secondary College on Wednesday 5 August. Students will perform their chosen poem before a panel of judges as part of the competition.
We wish all participating students the very best and look forward to hearing about their success at the Regional Final.

MATHS SPECIALISTS
This term lessons began with Maths Talks before students engaged in collaborative problem-solving tasks that developed the four Maths Proficiencies: Problem-Solving, Understanding, Fluency and Reasoning.
Using the Building Thinking Classrooms approach, students worked in flexible groups to tackle rich mathematical challenges, share their thinking and learn from one another. This engaging approach supported students to build confidence, deepen their mathematical understanding and strengthen their reasoning and perseverance skills.
Please see photos below of our junior school students exploring and learning about Mathematics in a fun and engaging way. There is also an activity for our Junior School students to problem-solve at home with their families. Good luck!
PE
What a fantastic Term 2 it has been for PE and School Sport at Rangeview!
One of the standout achievements this term was our District Cross Country team winning the Nunawading District Cross Country Championship for the fifth year in a row. This is an incredible effort by our students and something the whole school community should be proud of. We also had over 20 students qualify for the Division Cross Country Championships, with nine students progressing through to the Regional Championships.
A special congratulations to Rayani in Level 5, who has continued her outstanding season by qualifying for the State Cross Country Championships next month. We wish her all the very best as she represents Rangeview at the highest level.
A big thank you to Mrs Janes and Clint Anderson for their support with training sessions and helping manage the Cross-Country team throughout each round. Their time and commitment have been greatly appreciated.
Our Level 3/4 students also enjoyed a fantastic Hoop Time Day at the State Basketball Centre, with more than 70 students taking part. Congratulations to our All-Star Girls, Future Star Boys and Future Star Girls teams, who all won their Grand Finals and will now represent Rangeview at the Regional Finals next term.
Our Level 5/6 students competed in the Nunawading District Winter Inter-school Sports competition, with more than 200 students representing Rangeview across five venues.
