Today is a great day to be you!

Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader Update

As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, we would like to thank our students, families, and staff for their ongoing support and positivity. This term has been filled with learning, growth, and many opportunities to build strong connections and wellbeing practices.

One of the real highlights this term has been our Breakfast Club. It has been fantastic to see so many students joining us each week up in the gallery to enjoy some breakfast and spend time together before the day begins. We have been averaging around 50 students each week, and the positive atmosphere and sense of community has been lovely to see. A special shout out to our amazing Year 6 volunteers, who have been helping to run Breakfast Club each week. They have done a wonderful job supporting younger students and giving back to our school community.

We have also continued our work around SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) this term. Earlier this term, staff participated in a half day Curriculum Day focused on building a shared and consistent understanding of behaviours across the school. Together, staff began defining behaviours as minor, moderate or major, and have started developing a behaviour management system linked to these behaviours. The aim of this work is to ensure that consequences are logical, expected and consistent for students across all areas of the school. Some of our senior classes have also been involved in discussions and activities around this work within their own classrooms. This work will continue throughout Term 3, before we are ready to share our finalised behaviour flowchart with students and the wider community.

Another major focus of our SWPBS implementation has been the development of our expected behaviours. SWPBS is centred around explicitly teaching expected behaviours and linking these to our school values. Following strong staff consensus, we decided to begin this work with expected behaviours in the toilets. Students have now been introduced to these expectations, and classes will continue unpacking and discussing them over the coming weeks. At the beginning of next term, we will introduce our next set of expectations, focusing on how we move around the school and transition between sessions.

We look forward to welcoming our students back next term, refreshed and ready for new adventures in learning.

Wishing all our families a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break.
