Year 5/6 Classrooms

Dear Families,

This term, students have been working hard across a range of engaging learning areas, and we are excited to share some highlights with you.

In our Information Text unit, students have been exploring natural disasters in Australia, developing their understanding of real-world events while building their research and writing skills. Alongside this, they have also been learning how to write biographies about a range of well-known figures, including actors, athletes, YouTubers, and singers.

As part of our Spanish learning, students have focused on structuring their writing clearly and accurately, using verbs in the past tense (third person) to describe events and achievements. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they apply these skills in meaningful contexts.

In Mathematics, we have successfully completed our unit on Decimals. Students demonstrated strong progress in their understanding and application of decimal concepts. We are now moving into a Tier 2 Fractions intervention, where students will work in targeted groups based on their current learning needs. This approach allows us to provide more focused support and extension, ensuring all students continue to grow in confidence and ability.

We also enjoyed a wonderful buddy activity, where students worked collaboratively to design their own creative creatures using natural materials such as sticks, rocks, and grass. They gave their creatures unique names and described their characteristics, showing imagination, teamwork, and strong descriptive language skills.

A special mention to our Grade 5 students, who have shown great creativity and effort in presenting their school jumper designs. Their ideas were thoughtful, innovative, and reflective of our school community.
