For parents who were unable to attend the online meeting, please find attached the presentation for the Parent Reading Course on decodable readers, Supporting Your Child’s Early Reading Journey. It provides an overview of how decodable texts build strong foundational skills, along with practical strategies you can use at home to support your child’s growing confidence and enjoyment in reading.
As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering high‑quality learning experiences, our school continues to implement the NSW English and Mathematics syllabuses with a strong focus on building the foundational skills students need to thrive across all areas of learning. This term, our teaching team have been working collaboratively to ensure that every child is supported, challenged and encouraged to achieve their personal best.
Across all stages, students are engaging with a wide range of rich and meaningful texts that help them develop strong reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Our English programs are designed to build confidence, deepen comprehension and foster a genuine enjoyment of language and literature. Key focus areas include:
Teachers are also placing a strong emphasis on helping students articulate their ideas, justify their thinking and engage thoughtfully with the ideas of others. These skills support not only literacy development but also confidence and communication across all learning areas.
In Mathematics, students are building their understanding through hands‑on learning, explicit instruction and opportunities to apply their knowledge to real‑world situations. Our programs are aligned with the NSW Mathematics syllabus and focus on developing deep number sense, flexible thinking and strong problem‑solving skills. Current areas of focus include:
We are committed to creating a learning environment where students feel confident to take risks, try new strategies and learn from mistakes. This helps them build resilience and a positive mindset towards mathematics.
Families play an important role in reinforcing classroom learning. Simple, everyday activities can make a meaningful difference:
Using real‑life maths such as cooking, measuring, shopping or telling time
These small moments help strengthen confidence and reinforce the skills students are developing at school.
