Year 5 News
As we approach the final few weeks of a term, we reflect on how busy of a period it has been. This term has been no exception. The last fortnight was filled with book parades, house carnivals and more!
Unit of Inquiry
The highlight for the last couple of weeks was the students' enactment of an election process. To support our current Unit of Inquiry, How We Organise Ourselves, the stage was set with five distinct parties, each spearheaded by a dedicated student leader. These parties encompassed the Animal Party, the No Homework Party, the Reading Party, the Sport Party, and the Canteen Party.
Endeavouring to emulate the formal voting procedure, students queued up diligently. Their names were checked off as they received ballot papers, enabling them to cast their vote for their preferred leader. After all the votes were cast, we delved into a preferential vote counting process, culminating in the determination of the ultimate victor.
The enthusiasm displayed by the students was palpable and infectious.
Measurement
Over the past few weeks, the Year 5s have been exploring different areas of measurement, including length, width and height, area and perimeter, volume and capacity and converting between units.
To summarise the succession of lessons, the students were given various measuring equipment enabling them to collect data from all areas of the school. It was great to see them pair up with others from the entire year level.
