Book Week

Last Friday, BNPS was a flurry of colour and excitement as the children were seen to be inspired by the theme for this year's Book Week, 'Read, Grow and Inspire'.

The Preps looked wonderful in all sorts of costumes from Captain Underpants, Wednesday from The Addam's Family, Where's Wally and many more. We are so grateful to be able to take part in these sorts of activities and it was magical to see the Preps' smiling faces as they proudly paraded in front of their older peers and parents.

Ms Maxwell and Mr Ross did a fantastic job of being MC for the day and we all had so much fun dancing to the music and celebrating Book Week together.

Thank you to all the families who came along to watch the parade and also to those who put in a lot of time and effort to dress their Prep children up in such incredible costumes for the parade.

Connection!

On Friday 18 August, as part of the 2023 National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, the Preps thought about the importance of connections and how important feeling connected is.

We spoke about all of the different connections the Preps have in their lives, from family, friends and of course, their teachers and classmates.

To represent how we are all connected and how we all support one another, we made a long paper chain. Each piece of the chain is connected to the others and to stay supported we need every single piece of the chain to be strong.

The Preps had a lot of fun decorating their piece of the chain and seeing the chain grow throughout the afternoon.

Daily 5 - Read To Self

Earlier in the year we introduced the Preps to the Daily 5, which is a literacy framework which is used throughout the school.

The 'Read to Self' component is just what it sounds like; during this time the Preps each have their own book, they sit alone, and read independently. While this may seem pretty straightforward as adults, it is a little more challenging for Preps. The Preps need time to get used to becoming independent readers and it takes practice to build up extended reading stamina.

The Preps are now getting used to coming in each morning, getting their take home books out and having 5 minutes of Read to Self before we begin our day.

Student Led Conferences

The Preps had a lot of fun showcasing their learning to their parents during the Student Led Conferences.

Beforehand, during class time, the Preps had a look through their learning books and chose some pages they were particularly proud of and keen to show their parents. The Preps then practiced speaking about their chosen pieces, while their partner practiced listening and asking questions.

It was so much fun having our parents in the classroom and we could tell they were so proud of how far the Preps have come with their learning since the start of the year!
