Prayers

We remember in our prayers all those who have died recently:

Br Mel Madden

Tuesday 22nd August is the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Pope Benedict XVI described this relationship, saying:

The small and simple young girl of Nazareth became Queen of the world! This is one of the marvels that reveal God’s Heart. Of course, Mary’s queenship is totally relative to Christ’s kingship. He is the Lord whom after the humiliation of death on the Cross the Father exalted above any other creature in Heaven and on earth and under the earth (cf. Phil 2: 9-11). Through a design of grace, the Immaculate Mother was fully associated with the mystery of the Son: in his Incarnation; in his earthly life, at first hidden at Nazareth and then manifested in the messianic ministry; in his Passion and death; and finally, in the glory of his Resurrection and Ascension into Heaven.

As we honour the Queenship of the Blessed Mother, let us reflect on the following prayer honouring Mary as Queen:

Let us as children of the Church above all renew our devotion to the One whom Jesus bequeathed to us as Mother and Queen.

Let us entrust to her intercession the daily prayer for peace, especially in places where the senseless logic of violence is most ferocious; so that all people may be convinced that in this world we must help each other, as brothers and sisters, to build the civilization of love.

Maria, Regina pacis, ora pro nobis!

Years 7 and 8 Dance

Last Tuesday night 15th August, Marist College, Ashgrove held a dance for our Years 7 and 8s. Mission raised thousands of dollars for Australian Marist Solidarity through the sale of tickets. This year 2023 is a very special year for Marists in our region, as it is the first year of the new Star of the Sea Province. This brings together Marist Brothers and lay people from 11 countries into one large and diverse unit in our global Marist family.

Staff Formation

We have more Professional Development coming up on Tuesday 29 August and Tuesday 5 September in the Tower Function Room from 7:30am – 8:30am.

Elizabeth Falconer from Marist Mission and Life (MLF) will be hosting both events. An email from Mission has been sent out to all staff with a link to registration. All staff are welcome to join us. Elizabeth will be discussing this year’s theme “Created and Called; a revolution of love and tenderness”.

Vinnies Sleepout Friday 25 August

Our students will be given some challenges (preparing a meal, finding water, making a ‘grab bag’) that will allow them to recognise the everyday difficulties that people face each day. Currently there are around 300,000 Queenslanders experiencing housing insecurity. ”Queensland needs 11,000 affordable and social homes each year for the next 20 years” (Professor Pawson)

Retreat Days for Year 9 and Year 10 will take place on Thursday 24th (Year 9 only) and Friday 25th (Year 10 only) August. Both days will be held by our guest presenter Michael Fitzpatrick. Michael is well regarded amongst Catholic Schools in South-East Queensland for providing thought-provoking days with real-world insight and activities.

Social Justice Sunday – 27 August, 2023

Social Justice Sunday observance by the Catholic Church in Australia has a long tradition. Since 1940, Catholic bishops have teamed up practically every year to issue major social justice pronouncements. The Australian Catholic Social Justice Council (A.C.S.J.C.) was created in 1987 by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (A.C.B.C.), as the Catholic Church’s national justice, peace, and human rights institution. The Bishops Commission for Justice and Development holds the A.C.S.J.C. accountable to the A.C.B.C

The Mission Team have a duty to make Jesus Known and Loved, we are called to see Christ in our students and in turn teach them to see Christ in the other. Much of our daily work is relational and social, the programs, activities, events, masses, liturgies, retreats and much more focus on the pouring out of love, being eucharistic, making judgements about others that are compassionate and not about ourselves.

Stationery Aid

Thank you to the students who have so ably supported our Stationery Aid MATES ministry on Friday mornings from 7.30am throughout the semester. The Stationery Aid collection bin can be found outside the Studies office. Our Primary School students have started donating their time to this great cause. Just email mates@marash.qld.edu.au for information or to sign up or visit the Mission Office
