Principal Update

STOMP

We began the STOMP program for the Year 2-6 this week. This is in preparation for the Year 2-6 concert in the last week of term. All students perform a dance and the Year 6 students take on the acting role to thread the dances together through a story. This year we go back in time to the 90’s when mobile phones were bricks. It will be an entertaining and fun evening for all.

Review

Tomorrow is the last day of our Review. During the day the panel will form the new Strategic Plan goals, strategies and targets. I’d like to thank Matt Cobby, School Council President, the staff and the panel for their efforts and guidance during this process. Alphington is a great school with amazing students and a supportive community.

National Day Against Bullying

On Friday we are acknowledging the National Day Against Bullying and also the leaders are running their House Activity for term 3. Students are encouraged to dress in House colours for the day. The House Event is happening in classroom after lunch and will involve games and puzzles, craft and creating. During the day classes will also be completing an anti-bullying lesson.

Bookweek

Next Tuesday we celebrate Book Week with a dress-up parade to start the day and then our classrooms are open for visitors to watch and take part in the learning. This is a great celebration and opportunity for grandparents and special friends to visit.

Gates

You may have read the Compass post about the Adams St gates disappearing. We were shocked and incredulous that someone would plan to and take the gates, hinges and screws. We have notified the police and will work on having them replaced. This will take some time and will be costly. I am lead to believe that there is a spate of such thefts in the area and so encourage you all to make sure bikes, cars, scooters and lighter items are locked away. It is the first time in my 8 years that I have experienced such a thing and I feel sorry for the people who are so desperate that they would take from a primary school.

Principal Morning Tea

I shared a morning tea with a larger group of Year 3,4,5 and 6’s. While we drank a delicious hot chocolate and ate biscuits I heard these comments about what they liked at school: Eve H, Luca and Clio all liked the choice they had in things they do; Taika said there were lots of things to do; Holiday appreciated the changes to make learning more fun; Esther liked the net to protect the play equipment from balls; Jeremy liked playing with football cards; Grace said “Everyone gets a chance to share and answer questions” which Ema and Olivia agreed with; Ned liked the opportunity to use a computer to support his learning; Bass liked the diverse learning opportunities but he would like more biology; Winston and Eve G liked the special days, concerts, STOMP dance and buddies; Rani and Jem liked the freedom in learning and the versatility of learning. I am really enjoying the Principal Morning Tea times and look forward to the next group of students and their ideas.
