BOOK WEEK 2023

Last week we celebrated the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week 2023 and what a fantastic week we had!

On Monday, students dressed up as a character from a chosen book. We were even lucky enough to have a special visit from Buzz Lightyear! It was wonderful to see so many original and creative costumes. Congratulations to our Junior school winner, Caitlyn in Prep (Sponge Bob) and our Senior school winner, Ahjay in Year 5 (Tusk Act 4 from Manga).

Staff members brought in their own special childhood books to read to students from different year levels during eating time.

On Tuesday, Naomi from Doveton Library visited us. She read a couple of the nominated books and told us all about Doveton Library.

This was followed by our annual Teachers vs. Students Spelling Bee. This year it was our teachers who took the title of Spelling Bee Champions! A special thank you to Frankie, Noah and Julieanne who made up the student team and to Mr Sharp, Ms Feddersen and Miss Jordan-Munro who made up the teacher team.

Thursday was a fun-filled day where students were in family groups and rotated around different classrooms to listen to some of the shortlisted books and participate in a variety of activities including creating dioramas, making hats, designing teapots, playing memory games and decorating houses.

On Friday, students shared a story with a buddy during eating time.

Congratulations to our winners of the ‘Guess How Many Pages in the Book’ competition:

Rithu who won a nominated picture storybook and Henry who won a nominated book for younger readers.

Many thanks to all parents for their support with costumes and participation in our events throughout the week. A special thank you too, to all staff members for their support and planning of events, and of course to our wonderful students for their enthusiasm which made 2023 Book Week such a special week. We can’t wait for Book Week 2024!
