Superhero Annabell 4th September 2023
Annabell has always worked hard to embody each of our 6 school values as she conducts herself in the school. However, this award is being given specifically for the value of persistence.
This Superhero always tries to do her best. This is exemplified in how she eagerly engages in her schoolwork, communicate and work with peers, and take on classroom and school responsibilities with care and efficiency.
Annabell has developed the confidence to always have a go. She is unafraid of admitting she doesn’t know something yet and keenly seek support from those around her to gain new knowledge and skills. Annabell has a good understanding of the importance of making mistakes and how this can help her make solid connections to new learning. This enables her to respond positively to constructive feedback and apply it effectively.
Annabell persistently comes to school with a positive attitude and enthusiastic energy which helps others feel comfortable and invigorated around her. She loves to share stories both personal and created with her peers and uses playful and creative communication skills when working in small and large groups. Her determination to try new things often sees her trying out for or joining in with sports games or activities. This is demonstrated in her passionate involvement as a member of Student Council this year.
This Grade 6 student always follows our school’s behaviour expectations to a tee. She has proven herself as a responsible role model as a senior member of Kyneton Primary School and is a fantastic and supportive influence for her Prep Buddy.
Studio 13 are extremely lucky to have Annabell as part of their class.
Congratulations Annabell, we hope you had a great week!
Superhero Henry 2023
The Superhero this week is receiving the award for regularly displaying the school values of Excellence and Responsibility although they consistently display all our school values.
Henry has a thirst for learning and always gives one hundred and ten percent. He has great ideas and shows creativity by thinking outside the square. When given a challenge he shows a ‘Dusty - don’t argue attitude’ and tackle it with determination.
Henry displays great initiative and is a super organised and responsible student who is developing great leadership skills. He is dependable and a team player, always willing to assist his peers and teachers or share his knowledge and skills with another class. He is an active and enthusiastic member of the Student Council and takes this role very seriously, never missing a meeting.
This Grade 4 student has a wonderful sense of humour and enjoys sharing his knowledge, the footy scores from the weekend, or a joke with others. Henry displays patience and is a thoughtful and cooperative classmate who loves all things AFL. I am sure we will hear him as a statistician in the commentary box calling the football one day!
We are very lucky to have this fabulous person in Studio 6.
Congratulations Henry, we hope you had a great week!

Instrumental Lesson
It has been a wonderful term for the 60 students that learn an instrument at the school. They are all making wonderful progress. Congratulations to Adeline who played her violin beautifully at assembly.
Happy holidays everyone,
Ms Polly
PE
Students in years 3 to 6 commenced the term in PE by finishing off their athletics trials. Our selected team of 40 students then travelled to Bendigo on 10th August to compete in the CDSSA District Athletic Championships. All students gave it their all and achieved some fantastic results. Two students, Daisy and Johnny, won their events and qualified for the District Championships. Earlier this week Daisy and Johnny competed in the District Championships back in Bendigo. Daisy in the 1500m and Johnny in the Shot Put. Again, both students were successful and won their events. Early next term they will both return to Bendigo to compete in the Regional Championships.
Congratulations and good luck to them both.
Mid-term, our senior boys and girls teams competed in the CDSSA District Basketball Championships in Sunbury. The girls team showed great spirit and improvement across the day highlighted by finishing strongly with a 24-0 win against Romsey. Our boys’ team were outstanding. They played hard all day and stepped up when challenged to finish undefeated with 7 wins. The boys were crowned District Champions and are now preparing for the Division Championships in Castlemaine early next term. Congratulations and good luck boys.
A highlight for many students this term was participating in Gymnastics Australia’s Free G program which is a combination of gymnastics, parkour, obstacle training and freestyle movement with a focus on coordination, agility, spatial awareness, and strength. We have finished off the term with Lawn Bowls. Through Bowls Australia’s Rookie Roller program students have been introduced to the sport through game-based activities that are accessible to all.
This term students in years 3 to 6 also participated in St John Ambulance’s First Aid in Schools program. Students were taught about the importance of first aid and what to do in an event of an emergency.
French News
The Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed an adventure back in time as they explored the French Revolution and what it symbolises for the French people. They harnessed their curiosity as they researched historical aspects of interest to them and presented their findings. They have just finished writing a scene for the play “Vive la Revolution” and look forward to creating costumes and performing early in Term 4.
The Year 3 and 4 students have had a busy term of writing. After rehearsing and performing the story “Les Trois Petits Cochons” (the three little pigs), they used the familiar vocabulary to write and illustrate silly sentences. They have just begun writing their own parodies of the story which will be ready to publish in early term 4.
The Year 1 and 2 students have been enjoying exploring French theatres and performing arts and have created their own mini puppet shows. They have used their creativity to design scenes, make finger puppets, write scripts, and prepare tickets.
The Preps have been working together to learn the story La Poule Maboule. They have been singing songs, painting pictures, playing games, writing captions and making mini books based on the story.
Well done to all the KPS students for a great Term 3.
Honey Happenings
Honey has been out and about in lots of classrooms with the support of the Honey Helper Team of students who do a wonderful job of delivering her to studios and making sure she is ready to spend time in the classroom.
Honey has helped many students feel calmer and happier and she is always happy to receive a pat or spend time with someone who could use her warm, furry company.
For Book Week Honey tried on a few costumes before deciding on her Dog Detective outfit. Who knew that there were so many books about dog detectives and dogs who help us? We have many books in the school library about dogs who work to support humans in a whole variety of ways.
I am sure you will agree that Honey looks the part in her Dog Detective trench coat and you can certainly count on Honey to sniff out ‘lost’ food or stinky things!!

More Canteen Helpers Still Required
We are still in need of canteen helpers on Thursdays and Fridays.
We have a very small number of fabulous parents that assist in the canteen, but it is just not enough to have consistent help.
The shifts required are as follows:
Thursdays - 1 parent helper required from 12pm - 2pm
Fridays - 2 parent helpers required. One from 11am - 2pm and another from 12pm - 2pm
Please email the school at kyneton.ps@education.vic.gov.au if you can help. All volunteers will need to show a valid a Working With Childrens Check and complete a short OHS Induction before commencing.
We really appreciate your help to enable us to continue to run our wonderful canteen.
Missing Items
If you know the whereabouts of these items, please return them to Jaimen Laird in Studio 12.
MANZELLA gloves – bright blue, clip together, with a red dot on the tag inside one of the gloves.
Kyneton Bushland Resort beanie.
School Gates and Opening Times
In the morning all gates will be open for access to the school site at 8:45 as this is when under industrial arrangements staff supervision in the yard commences. No students are allowed onsite until this time.
In the afternoon all gates will be open at 3:15 for access to the school site. Access to the office during the school day is via the pedestrian gate on Edgecombe St.
The new ramp/path between the school and the kindergarten is now operational. Access to the school grounds using the ramp is between the hours of 8:45 – 3:40. On either side of these hours, the bottom of the ramp will be chained off. Access outside of these hours needs to be arranged through the school office or a staff member by calling 5422 1855.
A reminder to all members of the school community the staff car park is not to be used to walk between the school and the kindergarten for safety reasons. Now that the ramp/path is operational the pedestrian gate next to the car park gates should be used following the path, crossing the road in front of the boom gate using the marked pedestrian crossing and then down the ramp.
* Please do not access the school site at any time via the staff car park for safety
reasons.
* Please do not park in the kinder carpark unless it is your kinder day and you are a kinder family.
2023 Uniform
School uniforms are available for purchase online direct from A Plus Schoolwear www.aplusschoolwear.com.au
When ordering uniforms please put the studio number of your child for easier delivery.
Once uniforms arrive at school, they will be sent home with your child.
Contact Details
There are times when we will need to contact you during a school day. It is important we have your most up to date contact details on file.
Please update these on Compass or email the school at kyneton.ps@education.vic.gov.au so we can update our records. Please include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details.
Student Attendance
If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by logging your child’s absence using our school’s Parental Portal in Compass.
Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained. It is a DET requirement that we have a reason for each child's absence.
This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
The Kyneton Primary School Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is available on our website www.kynetonprimaryschool.com.au
Students Arriving Late
Students arriving late to school should come to the office, accompanied by an adult, and sign in either on the Compass Kiosk or in the late book. They will then be issued a late pass to take to class and their arrival at school will be updated on the roll. This will avoid parents/guardians receiving notification that their child is not at school when they have arrived late.
Accessing Compass
Compass is our main way of communicating with our families. It is important that parents access the Parental Portal in Compass at https://kynetonps.vic.jdlf.com.au
Using our parent portal will enable you to –
- View up-to-date class and school attendance information
- Approve or enter upcoming or past absences for your son/daughter
- Update your registered email and mobile number (used for SMS alters)
- Access information regarding upcoming events and news
- Access your child’s Semester Reports
- Book your Parent/Student/Teacher conferences
We encourage families to download the Compass App and to enable notification to ensure you receive all communications.
Please click on the “Welcome to Compass” booklets for further assistance or contact the office.
