Dear Parents and Friends,
We have finally hit Spring - fingers crossed the weather starts to improve! It seems to have been a very long and cold winter with many virus’ hitting us. We need the sun to shine to dry up all the germs in the air!
As a follow up to the Audiri note that I sent out yesterday, I am very happy for children to start wearing their summer uniform if the weather is going to be warm. Please make sure that whichever uniform your children are going to wear (summer or winter) it must be the full uniform, not a mix of both.
Please remember to look at the eSafety Commission website to gain an understanding of what the protocols are for online behaviours. This website is an amazing site to help parents navigate the minefield that can be social media.
If your child is having any issues when using social media please report it to the eSafey Commission.
https://www.esafety.gov.au/ Is the link to the eSafety Commission.
A good platform for children to use is Kids Messenger, making sure the camera is on. This allows the children to see the faces of their friends, which allows them to see the reactions to things that are being said.
Please be mindful of where you are parking at school drop off and pick up as we have had quite a few phone calls lately from our neighbours upset that we are parking across or on part of their driveway. I have spoken to Kingston Council to see if we can get bays painted to show the parking spaces available. Thank you for your support in this matter.
What fun we had last week spoiling our Dads/Special People. Our Father's Day Stall was a huge success - very ably run by our Year 6 Leaders - Tom, Archie and Toby. The children were very excited with the gifts they had purchased and we hope that the Dad's got a lovely surprise on Sunday.
We also had a huge turnout to our Father's Day Breakfast. A big thank you to Ange Karaan, Dina Watterson, Sally-Anne Chillianis, Mel Kavanagh, Sharon Cann, Selena Bourke, Larissa Hutchison, Allie Donnelly, Margeaux Hawkins and Dan O'Connor for purchasing the food, setting up the hall and preparing the delicious breakfast enjoyed by all.
On Monday and Tuesday our Year 5 students went down to Mordialloc Preschool. Here is what our children had to say:
“Last time I was at Mordialloc Preschool was when I was actually a student there! The Preschool looks very different and the staff are very nice. The pre-schoolers were very funny!
We played different activities and the children were very competitive and all wanted to participate in the games. We really enjoyed spending time with the preschoolers and getting to know them.” Mikki and Declan.
I wonder what sort of fun activities the children did when they went down to Kilbreda this week? They seem to have a whole lot of fun when they go to Kilbreda!
“Yesterday we put salt, dye and chalk into water and stirred it all together. Then we put filter paper into a funnel cup, and the paper filtered
the water and separated the chalk from the water. Then we put the liquid into a little bowl and put it on top of a bunsen burner. The Kilbreda girls, who were helping, lit the bunsen burner for us. It got really hot and the water evaporated and it turned back into salt.
We have enjoyed the LitSTEM project and learning about different chemical reactions. We would recommend it for next year’s Year 4 students, as they will learn a lot, like we did”
Spencer and Iris.
What an amazing effort our children put into their events at the District Athletics. We did have a bit of a depleted team as some of our girls were at the Kilbreda Testing Day. As always I am so proud of our children for their beautiful manners and excellent sportsmanship. We came 9th overall and 4th in the handicap.
Last night, many of our Year 3 families gathered to learn about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Together they discussed about being in right relationship with God and others and the importance of admiting when we have made a poor choice and saying sorry.
It is that time of year when we seek feedback from families in relation to your child’s needs for class placement in 2024. This information is one of the many ways which helps us to construct our classes for next year. These are not requests for teachers nor are they seen to be binding once sent. Your feedback combined with staff and student feedback will ensure a fully informed decision making process for 2024 class formation. If you wish to provide feedback, it must be sent via email and sent to me - principal@sbmord.catholic.edu.au by Friday 15 September marked private and confidential.
Please do not do email via your child’s classroom teacher, Tracey or office@ due to the confidential nature of the email.
As we are nearing the end of Term 3, I have to turn to planning for 2024. If you are planning on not returning to St Brigid’s for next year (excluding Year 6 students) can you please let me know in writing at:

Unfortunately, the weather was not kind to us this week and Running Club did not occur.
Total km = 142.9km
We are on the Hume Fwy passing Locksley.
We are nearly at the end of Term 3, how quickly the time goes. We have had such a busy term:
Last week of term sees:
Thursday 14th September is the last day for students this term. On Friday we have a school closure day where Dr Selena Fisk will be discussing with staff, data and how to use it to drive our teaching.
Next week's newsletter will be the students newsletter so from me I would like to thank you as always for your wonderful support you give me, admin staff, ESOs and teaching staff. It takes a village to raise a child and we have the best village!
Take care, stay safe and enjoy the holidays!
