Long Weekend and 'Halfway Day'
I trust all families had a restful long weekend, perhaps indoors watching movies due to the weather! A special mention to our Year Twelve teachers, who most likely spent their long weekend with a mountain of marking from the recent examinations!
On Tuesday, our Year Twelve students celebrated their 'Halfway Day' with a sausage sizzle at lunch. Many of the girls had also organised to coordinate their hairstyles for the day, with braids and pink ribbons! It was fun to watch the celebrations at lunchtime.
World’s Greatest Shave
Speaking of hairstyles, Wednesday saw many of our Year Twelve students, and even a few staff, shave their heads to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave. Our GSG team raised over $23,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. It was a wonderful day and great role modelling from our Year Twelve students and staff in support of such a worthy cause. There are a few cold heads waking up today and a few beanies around campus!
Year Ten Examinations and Upcoming Information Evening
This week, we have begun Year Ten examinations and the students have responded brilliantly to the challenge. It is nice to see a strong academic culture of students trying their best and stepping up. Next week, there is a parent information session on the possible pathways our Year Ten students can explore in their senior years. The landscape is quite different from when parents were at school, so it is well worth coming along to hear about the different options. Students are more than welcome to attend as well. The parent information session is in the Library from 5.00pm to 6.00pm on Wednesday 10 June.
Wilson Day!
Also on Wednesday 10 June, students are invited to celebrate Wilson Day, the fourth (and final) of our House dress-up days. Students are encouraged to 'wear your colours,' whether that's from a favourite sporting team, cadet unit, or even just an outfit in your favourite colour! There will also be a cake stall and a gold coin donation if you would like to dress-up, with all proceeds supporting the Albany Youth Support Association.

Year Nine Snake Run Media Excursion
Last week, our Year Nine Media Arts students visited the iconic Albany Snake Run as part of an exciting documentary filmmaking project. This excursion forms part of their work for the upcoming Whole School Arts Exhibition, themed 'Our Place', which celebrates local stories as Albany approaches 2026 and marks the Snake Run’s 50th anniversary.
During the visit, students collaborated in production teams to capture footage of this heritage-listed site. Each team member assumed various roles, including interviewers, camera operators, drone pilots, and sound technicians, all contributing to the creation of a 60-second documentary. Additionally, students had the opportunity to speak with Geoff Scott, who has been skating the Snake Run since age 14 and played a significant role in the Snake Run's 40th-anniversary celebrations, gaining valuable insights into its cultural importance.
The excursion allowed students to develop practical media skills while exploring storytelling, teamwork, and creative expression. We look forward to seeing their finished documentaries showcased later this year.
Here are some comments from the students who participated:
My role was camera operator on camera 2. I enjoyed finding out more information about the Snake Run. I learnt how to operate a camera and keep the person being interviewed in the middle of the frame. It was fun to see Geoff's answers and find out some things about the Snake Run. - Lachlan Pages
I enjoyed the Snake Run excursion. I liked learning about the history and heritage of the place, especially since I've been there so many times and now I know its significance. It was really good to get out of the classroom and I really appreciate the effort Ms Gunning put into this for us. Thankyou. - Cooper Dixon
It was a good way to get out and about, into the bush. I liked being on the drone and was given different learning experiences. - Megan Shawe
On the day of the Snake Run excursion, my role was b-roll with Ayrton and Cooper. We were in charge of the ground shots of the camera, it was fun seeing the big snake and taking videos and pictures of the skateboard and it flying over the camera. I learnt how to get good shots and how to position the camera properly. Overall, the Snake Run was very cool because I had not seen it before and it was fun filming with my friends. - Noah Jones
The Snake Run excursion was such a fun experience; it was so cool being able to hear about the early days of the Snake Run from someone who was there to experience it. I was an interviewer, so I got to ask Geoff all the questions and hear all the stories he wanted to tell. - Missy Powell
