Student Wellbeing and Learning

Being Reflective - Our GREAT Values.
At Greenhills, our values are at the heart of everything we do. They help shape the culture of our school and guide the way we learn, work, and grow together as a community. Our GREAT values, combined with our HILATs and SWPBS, create shared expectations and support students to become confident learners and respectful members of the community.
Throughout the year, students regularly explore and reflect on how they demonstrate our values in the classroom, in the playground, during specialist lessons, and across all aspects of school life. As a part of the reporting process, students have agency over their learning, by being reflective on how they are tracking showing each of our values. Teachers also use the same rubric to assess how they see students showing our values.
Our GREAT values are:
G – Grit (Murrup)
Showing perseverance, courage, resilience, and persistence when learning feels challenging.
Students demonstrating Grit:
- Keep trying even when work feels hard
- Learn from mistakes and feedback
- Take risks in their learning
- Stay focused and ask questions to improve
R – Respect (Gargook)
Treating others, ourselves, and our environment with care and kindness.
Students demonstrating Respect:
- Use kind and polite words
- Listen to others and value different ideas
- Follow our SWPBS expectations
- Include others and stand up for kindness
E – Effort (Murmuk)
Taking ownership of learning and always trying their best.
Students demonstrating Effort:
- Stay focused and use learning time wisely
- Join classroom discussions
- Use feedback to improve their work
- Show enthusiasm and motivation for learning
A – Adventure (Yanna)
Being brave learners who embrace challenges and step outside their comfort zones.
Students demonstrating Adventure:
- Try new things and ask questions
- See mistakes as opportunities to learn
- Stay curious and open-minded
- Seek challenges and new learning experiences
T – Teamwork (Murmuk Djerring)
Working positively with others and contributing to shared goals.
Students demonstrating Teamwork:
- Listen carefully and take turns
- Share ideas respectfully
- Solve disagreements calmly
- Work cooperatively and support others
Reflecting on Growth
Students will reflect on their progress using a five-point scale:
- E – Beginning
- D – Developing
- C – Consistent
- B – Strong
- A – Exceptional
An example of what our rubric looks like:
This reflection process encourages students to think deeply about how they demonstrate our values in different settings and learning areas. We recognise that students may show these values differently across curriculum areas and specialist classes, but our reports reflect how students demonstrate these values across all areas.
We explain to students that there is no right or wrong answer, but a chance to honestly reflect on what they are doing well and what areas they need to work on. Having the rubric allows students to choose one ‘area’ they can work on next term.
Our next HILATs (High Impact Learning Agency Trait) is pursuing goals, so what a perfect way to set a goal!
My value to work on Adventure - to seek new learning experiences. Maybe this year I need to go on a holiday not to Europe or somewhere different…maybe do a cruise…
At Greenhills, we are GREAT!
