Term 2, Week 7
Over the past two weeks, we have been delighted to welcome families to several parent engagement events, including our Year 5 STEM Night, Year 3 Maths Night, and our wonderful Music Soirée. These events provide valuable opportunities for students to showcase their learning, skills, and talents with their families. From demonstrating innovative STEM projects and mathematical thinking to performing musical pieces with confidence and enthusiasm. Strong partnerships between home and school play a vital role in supporting student success. When families engage in their children's learning, students develop greater confidence, motivation, and a sense of pride in their achievements. These events allow us to celebrate learning together and strengthen the connections that contribute to positive outcomes for all students.Thank you to all staff, students, and families who contributed to making these events such a success. We look forward to providing more opportunities for families to engage with and celebrate student learning throughout the year.

As part of our ongoing sustainability initiatives, we were fortunate to welcome Repurpose It to our school last Tuesday for an engaging and hands-on incursion, led by one of our parents, Thomas Fox and supported by Paul Lagana. Throughout the day, our Sustainability Leaders, Class Captains, and students from a range of year levels worked together on a project to refresh and revitalise our garden spaces. Students were actively involved in spreading mulch across the garden areas, helping to improve soil health, retain moisture, and support the long-term sustainability of our school environment. The incursion provided students with valuable learning opportunities about sustainability, waste repurposing, and environmental stewardship. They enjoyed contributing to a meaningful project while gaining a deeper understanding of how small actions can make a positive impact on our environment. We extend our sincere thanks to Thom and Paul and Repurpose It for sharing their expertise and supporting our sustainability initiatives. Our gardens now look revived, refreshed, and ready to thrive, and we are proud of the enthusiasm and teamwork demonstrated by all students involved.

On Thursday, our Year 4 students attended their Eucharist Retreat Day as part of their preparation for receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Retreat days are a valuable part of our sacramental preparation, allowing students to step away from their regular routines and focus on the spiritual aspects of the sacrament they are preparing to receive. We keep our Year 4 students and their families in our prayers as they prepare for this special occasion. We look forward to celebrating the Sacrament of First Holy Communion together on Sunday 14 June at 2:00 pm, and witnessing this important step in their faith journey.

On Thursday, 16 students proudly represented Our Lady’s at the Woodlands Division Cross Country Championships held at the Kilmore Racecourse Trackside. Despite the wet, cold and windy conditions, our students were outstanding. The challenging weather did not deter them, with every competitor displaying incredible determination, resilience and effort throughout their race. Just as impressive was the camaraderie, sportsmanship and encouragement shown towards one another, making us incredibly proud of the way they represented our school. A special congratulations to our two podium finishers:
Chloe Barnes (4C) – 1st Place
Abellamary Toma (5A) – 3rd Place
We are also thrilled to announce that five students have qualified for the Northern Metropolitan Region Cross Country Championships, to be held on Wednesday, 17th June:
Chloe Barnes (4C)
Abellamary Toma (5A)
Oscar Oldfield (5C)
Jacob Hanona (5C)
Francesco Milana (6A)
Congratulations to all 16 competitors on your fantastic performances and the way you represented Our Lady’s. We are all so proud of your achievements. A special thank you to Sarah Mercuri for her help and support throughout the day, and to all the parents who made the trek to Kilmore to cheer on and encourage our students. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps make these events such a positive experience for our students.

Our teachers have been busy preparing Semester One reports for all students. Teachers dedicate many hours to writing, editing, and proofreading these reports, often outside of school hours to ensure they provide meaningful and personalised insights into your child’s academic growth, work habits, and areas for development. We look forward to celebrating each student’s progress with you during the upcoming parent-teacher interviews in Week 11. Booking times will be available via COMPASS shortly.

All schools across Australia are mandated to collect data for the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD). This annual process requires schools to identify students receiving adjustments and support, as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. The data collection helps ensure that schools are meeting the individual needs of students and supports the ongoing development of inclusive practices. It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or support at school so that all students have the opportunity to learn and succeed. It also informs government planning and funding to better support students with diverse learning needs. Parents and carers are not required to provide any additional information, and the data collected is de-identified to maintain privacy. For more information about this process please click on the link: Parent Fact sheet
