Assessment and Reporting

Tomorrow is a closure day for our school, providing our teachers with dedicated time to collaborate with colleagues and reflect deeply on each student's learning journey across the semester.

Over the past few weeks, both students and teachers have worked through a range of assessments. These assessments serve as important evidence of learning, capturing not just what students know, but how they think and apply their understanding. Alongside formal assessment pieces, classroom work and teacher observations also play an important role in building a complete picture of each student's learning, capturing the everyday moments of growth, engagement, and understanding that may not always be reflected in a single task or assessment alone. Together, these sources of evidence play a vital role in two key professional processes: moderation, where teachers work together to ensure assessments are evaluated consistently and fairly across classrooms; and triangulation, where multiple sources of evidence are brought together to build a well-rounded, accurate picture of each student's progress.

At St Joseph's, assessment is not simply about assigning grades, it is a powerful tool that informs teaching, identifies areas where students may need additional support, and celebrates the growth and achievements students have made. We are committed to using assessment meaningfully, ensuring it reflects each child's individual journey at a point in time.

The collaborative work conducted during tomorrow's closure day feeds directly into our semester reports, which are designed to provide families with a clear, accessible, and meaningful picture of where your child currently is in their learning journey.

School reports will be made available to parents and families on the afternoon of Friday 19 June and will be accessible through the nReports module on nForma.

Parent and Teacher Interviews

As shared in recent correspondence through nForma, our Parent & Teacher Interviews for this term will take place on Wednesday 24 June from 1:15 pm until 8:15 pm. These sessions give you the opportunity to sit down with your child's classroom teacher to discuss their achievement and set goals for Semester Two.

Bookings for Parent & Teacher Interviews are to be made through the nMeet module on nForma. Thank you to those families who have already secured a time. Please note that a confirmation email will not be sent upon booking — once your appointment has been selected in the app, your booking is confirmed.

Please also note that School Interviews, the platform used in previous years, is being phased out for Parent & Teacher Interviews going forward.

We understand that not all families will be available on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday 24 June. If you are unable to attend, please contact your child's classroom teacher directly to arrange an alternative time. It is important to us that every family has the opportunity to connect with their child's teacher this semester.

Families who are currently engaged in PSG meetings do not require a separate Parent & Teacher Interview.

As a reminder, the school day will conclude at 1:00 pm on Wednesday 24 June to allow time for the interview evening. MACSEYE will be available from 1:00 pm for families who require care.

We encourage all families to log in to nForma via the app and nMeet module to secure a suitable time before Friday 19 June.

Open Learning Morning

Supporting our reporting process, we warmly invite parents and extended family members to visit their child's classroom for our Open Learning Morning on Friday 19 June from 8:30 am – 10:00 am.

This year, the morning has been designed for families to explore their child's classroom space, viewing evidence of learning gathered across the semester alongside the everyday routines and practices that form part of school life. Our Year 5/6 students will use this event as an opportunity to showcase their learning connected to their Shark Tank Topic unit, and we look forward to our wider community seeing the outstanding work of our senior students.

The Open Learning Morning has been designed to help parents develop a deeper understanding of our school's approach to key areas of the curriculum and build a richer picture of their child's progress.

We hope to see many parents and family members there.
