The TAS Department has been buzzing this term, as students build, cook, design, and engineer under the guidance of our enthusiastic TAS team Mr Partridge, Mr Thomas, Mr Lyell, Mr McAuliffe, Mr O'Neill-Yee, Ms Clarke, Mrs Reynolds and Ms Clendinning.

Cake Designers at Work – Year 10 Food Technology

Mr Partridge’s Year 10 Food Technology students have showcased their artistic flair with amazing cake designs. From sculpted sponge layers to eye-catching icing, our budding pastry chefs proved that food technology is as much about creativity as it is about flavour!

Automotive and Construction Highlights

Mr Thomas’s Industrial Technology Automotive class has been hands-on with engines, learning how vehicles operate and mastering essential maintenance skills. In addition, Mr Thomas’s Construction students have been developing practical skills through tiling activities, gaining experience in precision and craftsmanship—important tools for future builders!

Levelling Up – Construction Class

Mr Lyell’s Construction class has been developing real-world building skills through levelling exercises. Students are learning how to create firm foundations and ensure their constructions are up to professional standards—quite literally! Watching the group tackle these practical challenges is inspiring.

Rocket Science and 3D Printing in STEM

In STEM, Mr Lyell and his students have taken to the skies with bottle rockets. Exploring aerodynamics, they designed and launched rockets equipped with 3D printed fins, learning firsthand how design influences flight stability and performance. The excitement and laughter prove science really can be explosive!

Junior TAS: Skills for Life

Junior technology classes have been busy exploring materials and engineered systems. With Mr Patridge, students designed and built rubber band-powered race cars, combining creativity, problem-solving, and a bit of friendly competition. In the kitchens with Mr McAuliffe, students have been developing their cooking skills—great for both school projects and everyday life.

Careers and Work Placement Support

Mrs Reynolds in Careers has been busy guiding students through work placement options and organising opportunities for senior students, including training for the Construction White Card. Her support helps students gain vital industry skills and prepares them for their pathways beyond school.

Year 12 Food Technology

Our Year 12 Food Technology student recently put their practical skills into action by preparing delicious chocolate chip biscuits. Throughout the lesson, our student followed the food preparation process, accurately measured ingredients, demonstrated safe and hygienic food-handling practices, and applied baking techniques to achieve a high-quality product. The practical experience provided an opportunity to develop confidence in the kitchen while reinforcing key concepts from the Food Technology syllabus. The end result was a batch of golden, freshly baked biscuits that showcased both creativity and technical skill.

Celebrating the TAS Team

We also extend a big thank you to Mr O'Neill-Yee, Ms Clarke, and Ms Clendinning, who continue to foster innovation and practical learning across all TAS subjects. Their dedication ensures students have opportunities to explore new technologies and build essential skills for the future.

Whether designing cakes, assembling engines, laying tiles, launching rockets with 3D printed fins, or creating race cars, our TAS students and staff show that hands-on learning is at the heart of education at Inverell High School.
