Sharing The Planet
Central idea: Exploration of interests and passions can inspire action and contribute to a better world.
This unit invites students to discover the powerful connection between what they love and the positive impact they can have on their communities and beyond.
Students will:
Discover their passions – What makes them curious? What issues do they care deeply about?
Connect to global challenges – How do their interests link to real-world problems affecting our shared planet?
Explore solutions – What actions can they take, no matter how small, to make a difference?
Building Toward Exhibition
The highlight of this unit will be our Student-Led Exhibition, where learners will showcase their journey and contributions. Students will:
Identify a passion or interest they want to explore
Research and investigate how their passion connects to global or community needs
Design and take action investigate an initiative that reflects their learning
Share their story with the school community, demonstrating how personal interests can inspire real change.
We believe every student has the potential to be a changemaker. By linking their own passions and interests to meaningful action, students develop agency, empathy, and a sense of responsibility to contribute to a better world.

We can't wait to see what inspires your child to take action!
Literacy
We are continuing with our text study of The Lost Thing. This book is from the famous author Shaun Tan and was made into an award-winning short film. Students will be comparing communication techniques and exploring the themes of belonging, creativity and conformity. Students will be learning how to compare texts and discuss techniques.
Our grammar focus has been on prefixes, such as phos-/photo- meaning light. Additionally, we are continuing to revise our punctuation and grammar daily.
We will also be extending literacy usage with our unit of inquiry as students begin to explore and investigate their passions.
Numeracy
We’ve been learning about triangle, square, composite and prime numbers. With all of these numbers, we are investigating patterns and usage. Additionally, students will find unknown values in numerical equations. They will use their knowledge of multiplication alongside inverse operations to find unknowns in numerical equations.
Finally, we have been working on fluency with short, timed activities on times tables and number facts. This has seen improvement in calculations. Students are able to track their progress.
We’ll continue to revise in the lead up to assessment in the coming weeks.
