CHILD SAFE STANDARD 4

Families and Communities are Informed and Involved in Promoting Child Safety and Wellbeing.

At Ripponlea Primary School, we recognise that families and communities play a critical role in promoting the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of children. We are committed to creating an open, transparent and inclusive child safe culture where families are welcomed as valued partners in supporting student safety and wellbeing.

Our approach is guided by Child Safe Standard 4, ensuring that families are informed about our child safe practices, actively involved in decisions affecting their children, and provided with meaningful opportunities to contribute to the development and review of our child safety systems.

Creating a Welcoming and Child Safe Community

Ripponlea Primary School strives to create an environment where families, carers and community members feel respected, included and safe when engaging with our school.

We achieve this through:

  • Welcoming school reception and administration processes.
  • Comprehensive enrolment and transition programs for new families.
  • Providing family welcome packs that include information about child safety, student wellbeing, complaints procedures and reporting pathways.
  • Clearly identifying key staff members who can support families with concerns regarding child safety and wellbeing.
  • Conducting school tours, open days, information evenings, performances, celebrations, community events and the Ripper Fete to strengthen school-community connections.
  • Maintaining strong partnerships with local organisations, early childhood services and support agencies that contribute to student wellbeing.

Family Engagement and Participation

Ripponlea Primary School actively encourages families to participate in decisions affecting their child's safety, wellbeing and learning.

Families are involved through:

  • Student Support Group (SSG) meetings.
  • Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Attendance and Engagement Plans.
  • Wellbeing referrals and intervention planning.
  • Parent-teacher conferences and student-led learning conversations.
  • Informal discussions with teachers and school leaders at drop-off, pick-up and throughout the school year.

These opportunities recognise the important role families play in understanding their child's strengths, needs and circumstances and support collaborative decision-making that places the child at the centre.

Open and Transparent Communication

The school provides regular opportunities for communication and engagement to ensure families are informed about our child safe approach.

Information is communicated through:

  • Compass Communications.
  • Weekly Community Updates.
  • School website.
  • Social media platforms.
  • Parent information sessions.
  • Community forums and consultation opportunities.
  • School Council meetings and reports.
  • Annual reports and strategic planning processes.

Families are encouraged to provide feedback, ask questions and raise concerns regarding child safety and wellbeing matters.

Where concerns arise, the school works collaboratively with families and communicates openly throughout the process while maintaining confidentiality and ensuring the safety of all students.

Ripponlea Primary School ensures child safety information is readily accessible to students, families, staff and the wider community.
