5/6 Excursion to Discovery Centre

On Monday students in the 5/6 unit went to the Discovery Center to have a little excursion.

There was the vertical slide, planetarium and a lot of little science games to take part in.

The vertical slide is a slide that goes straight at first then curves up, they hold your jumpsuit and ask if you are ready.. Once you are ready you have to put your arms down and then they will say 3, 2, 1 and drop you down. Don't worry it is safe!

They have a lot of mini science games like a mirror maze, a throwing speed simulator, construction site activity and a music button.

Inside the planetarium, we learnt about the Solar System, the planets and objects that make up the system. The most interesting fact that we learnt was that every planet beyond Mars has a ring around it.

It was a worthwhile experience and it was very fun. The slide was my favorite thing there and I think it was everyone else’s as well.

Prep - Caritas Cafe

A huge thankyou to our beautiful community who came to support our Prep students last week at our Carits Cafe, they proudly raised over $100 for Caritas - Project Compassion!

The cafe was staffed by the Preps, who took orders and waited on beautifully decorated tables for VIP guests. Family, friends and school leadership enjoyed cupcakes, crunchy honey joys and cups of cordial.

All while immersing themselves in the sound of the week - /k/ - c as in cat.

Combining learning and caring for others is what we do at St Monica's!

3/4 Expo

This term , the 3/4 unit have been exploring the world with their Inquiry unit - Where Are We?

Last week they held their Continent Expo - Southern Hemisphere. Australia/Oceania, Africa, South America and Antarctica were each showcased and our learners travelled through each of these continents seeking and investigating their geographical and other natural features.

Carrying Water

Prep students participated in a meaningful Project compassion activity, carrying buckets of water up and down the basketball court.

While doing this they reflected on stories of children like Thandolwayo in Zimbabwe.

Before aid from Caritas, children in Thandolwayo's community walked up to 3-hours for water before even starting their school day.

Though the task was challenging, our preps showed wonderful teamwork and compassion, even if they ended up a little wet and losing most of their water along the way.

We are so grateful for easy access to clean water and want this for everyone in the world, please continue to support Caritas -Project Compassion
