A message from our librarian Mrs Tabatha Wain

Please support your child to borrow books from the library by encouraging them to bring a suitable library bag to school on their library day. Ben Venue has library bags available for purchase from the front office, however these are not mandatory. Any good quality material or plastic-coated bag is acceptable. A pillowcase is even a great option!  It is essential for the protection of the books inside that paper bags or bags with holes are not used as library bags.

As well as during your child's regular borrowing time, the library is also open Monday to Thursday from 8:40 - 9:00 am and 1:00 - 1:20 pm. Students are able and encouraged to access the library for borrowing during these times.

Term 1 in the library

This term in the library, there has been a large focus on developing an understanding of the library and its procedures across all stages. Students are learning how to take care of books, how to browse for, borrow and return books to the correct location, as well as learning the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. Some students in Stages 1-3 have also been learning about the Dewey Decimal System and how it helps to return books to the correct location in the library.

Early Stage One has begun listening to and exploring a range of picture books, learning all about the features of a book. Stage 1 has begun to sample a range of fiction and non-fiction books, relating the content to their own experiences. Stage 2 is exploring the quality literature of Roald Dahl, making comparisons between his many wonderful texts. Stage 3 has begun working on their research skills to support their geography studies on a chosen Asian country.

We look forward to a wonderful year in the library with your children!
