Public Speaking Leadership Workshop

Last week, students from COHR had the fantastic opportunity to participate in an engaging Public Speaking Leadership Workshop hosted by Salesian College students. This collaborative event, facilitated by Per Vocem Vita, provided an enriching platform for our students to enhance their public speaking skills and leadership abilities.

Throughout the day, our students delved into various aspects of effective communication, guided by enthusiastic student volunteers from Salesian College. From refining presentation techniques to mastering the art of speech composition, participants were immersed in dynamic sessions designed to foster confidence and articulate expression.

Led by students from Salesian College, our students embraced the challenge of stepping out of their comfort zones and honing their speaking prowess. The workshop not only equipped them with practical skills but also instilled a sense of empowerment and self-assurance.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Salesian College and particularly Thomas (founder and director of Per Vocem Vita) for organizing this invaluable workshop and for their dedication to empowering young minds. Events like these exemplify the spirit of collaboration and learning that defines our community. As we reflect on the success of the Public Speaking Leadership Workshop, let's continue to nurture and support our students as they grow into confident, articulate, and influential leaders.

When we first arrived at Salesian a million thoughts went through my head like why we went to a boys school. Once we went through the door I was nervous and I wondered what would happen. The workshops were informative and there were tons of techniques for public speaking. My favourite part was when it was lunch time because we got to listen to the band which was quite loud but fun.

The overall experience at Salesian was interesting and fun! - Izzy (Faith Leader)

It was different a year six leader going into a high school for year 7 to 12 being lead by year 11 students and 14 kids coming into the school. Our first job was learning how to start a debate and Zach was leading us in this amazing school. I was amused at this place because of how big it is and how easy it is to get lost and then I went home with Matthew. - Steve (Gold House Captain)

As soon as I arrived it felt different. It felt weird. As we walked through the reception area I felt weird. There was all boys and no girls and to me that did not just feel different it felt weird. We learnt Speech Writing, Skills and rebuttal techniques. Some of the lessons I understood but some of them were a bit tricky to understand. One of my favourite things had to be the speech writing I loved it and found it so fun to write one of my own Speeches. But another one of the best things is that we got to watch a few debates. Our leader was Thomas. He was the founder of the program and in my opinion he did a pretty good job for a student and I actually thought the government made it. The speech I had to write about was, 'We regret the rise of social media' and I was on the affirmative team. I really enjoyed this program and I was really lucky to go. - Celeste (Green House Captain)
