Learning and Teaching in 1/2H
The Adventures of 1/2H:
Exploring, Learning, and Growing Together!
We've had an eventful Term 1 filled with learning, creativity, and community engagement. Here are some highlights of our term!
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program continues to flourish, quite literally! Our students have been actively involved in cultivating our school garden and utilising the fresh produce. In our recent session, students had a blast making delectable recipes using ingredients straight from our garden beds. From savoury eggplant chips to mouthwatering pumpkin cake, every dish was a testament to the hard work and dedication our students put into their cooking.
But the Kitchen Garden Program is about much more than just cooking. It's a collaborative effort that fosters teamwork and cooperation among our students. They worked together seamlessly in groups, demonstrating excellent communication skills and a shared passion for healthy, homegrown food. We're incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and commitment to this program.
Flick “I liked the pastries that we made. They were so good I wanted more and more! The pumpkin cake was also yummy. We got to go to the garden and look at all the vegetables we are growing”
Mila “I enjoyed making the eggplant chips. My favourite dish was the pumpkin cake, it was so delicious!”
Fraser “All the food was really delicious. It was really fun cooking and preparing the food. My favourite part was dicing the tomatoes”
Our Inquiry Unit
Over the term, students have been delving into history, exploring how individuals and communities commemorate significant events. From personal family traditions to broader societal practices, students have been examining the diverse ways in which people honour the past.
Furthermore, students have been investigating the role of individuals and places within our local community. By examining our school's history and evolution over time, they've gained insights into the dynamic nature of our community. Additionally, our curious learners have embarked on a fascinating journey through time by exploring artefacts around the school. Through these tangible remnants of the past, they have unearthed hidden stories and gained a deeper understanding of our school's rich heritage.
Jackson “It’s been enjoyable learning about the school’s history. We saw lots of photos of our school from the past, and it shows us how much the school has changed over time”
Katina “I enjoyed seeing the photos of what COHR looked like in the past and looking around our school to find some artefacts. It was interesting to know that we have a time capsule in our school”
As always, we're immensely proud of our students' curiosity, critical thinking, and dedication to learning. Their engagement with these topics has been inspiring, and we look forward to witnessing their continued growth and exploration.
