Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the end of the term having shared many celebrations and some challenges together, today Harmony Day, was a great time to pause and reflect as a community on how lucky we are to be at COHR where 'Everyone Belongs'. Today we celebrated with a touch of orange including Zooper Doopers. Thank you to those parents who gathered to share a coffee and join us all in prayer.

Condolences to the Salesian College Community

We would like to pass our deepest condolences to the Salesian Community following the passing of their past principal Mr. Robert Brennan. Robert was Principal of Salesian College from 2012 to 2020. We know the community would certainly be feeling this lose.

Congratulations

Estelle (5/6G) has tried out for and been selected for the 2024 Football Victoria (FV) Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) Centres. It is run by Football Victoria coaches and staff. FV SAP Centres are part time programs, working in conjunction with clubs to identify and develop potentially talented Victorian players.

Well done Estelle, a great achievement!

Easter Guess a Jar & Easter Raffle

Guesses for the guess-a-jar are happening in the Courtyard each morning from 8:30-8:45am and will run until Thursday 28th March. For 50 cents, children guess how many eggs are in the jar. Each child is only allowed 2 gueses. The winners will be announced at the Easter Assembly at 3pm on Thursday, to which parents are invited.

The Easter Raffle tickets have been sent home - great prizes including a giant chocolate bar & oodies!

Reconciliation

On Tuesday night many of our Year 3 students celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. They were well supported by their families and it was a lovely celebration of this next step on their faith journey. We are grateful to Fr Shanthaiah for leading us all in Fr Raju's absence. The staff did not take any photos - so if families are willing to share some could they please send them to Mrs Cowan! jcowan@cohroakeast.catholic.edu.au

Welcome

On a Friday you may see some almost familiar faces. Three of our past students have come back to volunteer as a part of their Year 12 Work Placement at Sacred Heart Girls College. Welcome Alyssa, Giselle and Ginger, it's nice to see you back!

SRC news

This year we launched our Student Representative Council (SRC). Two students from each of the Yr 3/4 & Yr 5/6 classes were voted to be on the SRC for Term 1. Each term two new students will be voted on from each class, so by the end of the year, 8 people in each class will have had a turn. Our fantastic School Captains Liesel and Matthew are the chair.

They have already begun a number of initiatives including 'Pumping up sports balls' and surveying classes on what lunchtime clubs they would like to have. The energy in the room as they meet is amazing, we can't wait to see what wonderful journey they take COHR on!

Mini Vinnies

Another amazing group of students are the Mini Vinnies Team. Started last year and with numbers increasing this year, they too have many plans for us all. Their two initiative this term has been the Zooper Dooper Tuesdays (orange was the least favourite flavour, so that is why we sold them for 50 cents today!) and to come is Happy Hats Day! Next Tuesday we ask that students donate a gold coin to Mini Vinnies and wear a Happy Hat! A Happy Hat is any hat of your own choosing - the crazier the better - or maybe just a footy cap! Whatever hat makes you happy!

We thank everyone for supporting Mini Vinnies and the great work of the St Vincent de Paul Society, who we work with.

Pre-School Music Time

Do you know any 3 or 4 year olds who might like to come and share some fun and music with Mrs Hutchings at our Pre-School Music Time? They are more than welcome to come and join us at 11:45am tomorrow in the Performing Arts Room. Story Time will be held again next term.

Further, if there is anyone you know looking to enrol their child at COHR, or would like to visit and have a tour, please get them to ring the school to book a time. We love to show off our wonderful school.

Ride 2 School Day

Tomorrow is Ride 2 School Day - ride, scoot or even walk. Just use a bit more energy than usual to get to school! Maybe park half way and ride the rest? Don't forget your helmet!

After School Netball

The COHR Netballers train on a Tuesday after school on the Tennis Courts. They are looking for more Year 2 and 3 students to come and join them. If you would like more details please contact Kate Duckett (Bridget 5/6 G and Mary Elizabeth 1/2G )  on 0401 767 955

As this is the last newsletter for Term 1, we wish all our families a very happy, safe and holy Easter. Easter is the highlight of the Church's calendar, it really is a time to be grateful for all that we have and to be grateful for the love God shows us through the people around us each day.

ABC Music

ABC Music Term 2 enrolments are now open. Lessons take place during school time on a Wednesday.  Please see the attached flyer if you wish to enrol your child.
