Year 7 Camp 2024 – Anglesea Valley Lodge

Year 7 students have embarked on a dynamic journey, adapting to the cultural shifts of high school and embracing the heightened academic expectations that come with new subjects. Their experiences have spanned the realm of sports, from Athletics to the Swimming Carnival, where they engaged in spirited competitions with their peers, guided by Year 12 leaders, they diligently earned points for their Houses alongside.

Additionally, the students faced the rigorous NAPLAN testing, a comprehensive assessment of their literacy and numeracy skills. Amidst this academic hustle, the standout event of the term was the Year 7 Camp. Held at the Anglesea Valley Lodge and organized by Auscamp, this camp provided an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a variety of outdoor activities. From team-building challenges to nature exploration, the camp fostered camaraderie and adventure.

Certainly, the Year 7 students had an exhilarating time during their camp engaging in a variety of activities that left them with lasting memories. Let’s delve into the details of their adventures. Canoeing and body surfing was a crowd favourite. Students were completely immersed in water activities, such as paddling their canoes and riding the waves while body surfing. The thrill of gliding across the water brought smiles to both students and staff. Students embarked on a challenging hike, that was guided by the camp leaders. The terrain tested their endurance while fostering resilience and building positive relationships. Students then hopped onto mountain bikes to explore interesting terrain. The thrill of conquering their fears and obstacles made for an unforgettable adventure.

In the team-building challenge, groups had to collaborate and cook a two-course meal, armed with basic groceries. They had lots of fun chopping, stirring, and having laughs over an outdoor cooker. To immerse students in the camping experience, they learned the essential skills of pitching tents, setting up a campfire, and cooking a dinner meal together. These were guided by the camp leaders; it was truly a time of bonding and nurturing new friendships as they camped out for the night. Students were forced out of their comfort zones to undertake exciting new experiences, in a safe space with their peers.

Pastor Matt led the group on a night walk, the darkness punctuated by stars. His devotion centered on how Christ had impacted his life, emphasizing belonging and family within the year level, to cultivate an inclusive culture. Hopefully, they have made memories that will embedded in their hearts.

Overall, Year 7s journey has been filled with adventure, learning, connections, academic demands, and thrilling outdoor experiences – a promising start to their high school journey!
