What Did You Do At School?

Prep

It rained hundreds and thousands in the Prep building last week. We made hundreds and thousands bread as part of our writing experiences. We enjoyed using our senses to explore the taste, smell and look of this delicious treat. In Mathematics, we have been learning about ordinal numbers and explored this through the story of The Great Race of Chinese New Years. We discovered that there are twelve animals, and this year is the year of the Dragon.

Year 1

What a blessing it was to see so many grandparents, parents and special friends turn out for the Year 1 and 2 Grandparents Day; the last count was 128 visits. We enjoyed discussing the difference between the past and present, making our photo frames, and the most popular activity was the photo booth. This afternoon showed a great sense of how school and community can come together in unity.

How good and pleasant it is for God’s people to live together in unity. Psalm 133.1

Year 2

What an incredible afternoon we had as our Integrated Studies unit came to life with the presence of our beloved Grandparents! We prepared thoughtful questions to explore the connections between their stories and our own lives. It was a joy having our Grandparents by our side. We wish everyday was Grandparents Day!

Year 3

We have had an extraordinary term, learning more about our peers and our teachers and what makes them unique. During Integrated Studies, we have reflected on our hobbies, principles, role models and family customs to create cards to play in The Game of Life. This week, we had the opportunity to play the game and ask each other questions about what is important to them. Our classrooms were buzzing with excitement and anticipation as we rolled the dice and attempted to collect a card from each topic! Ask us about what hobby, principle, role model, or family custom is most special to us.

Year 4

This week, we have been concluding our Integrated Studies unit The Game of Life. Throughout the term, we created game cards that included details about our own identities. While playing the game, we had the opportunity to ask questions of each other and think of new ideas they had not thought of before. It has been a fantastic term of exploring important aspects of our identity, and diving deep into how knowing Jesus dramatically impacts our identity.

Year 5 and Year 6

We spent the last few weeks working very hard to prepare for our Identity Expo until finally, the day came! We created t-shirt designs, crosswords and presentations, all to share what makes up our identities and the fandom to which we belong. We brought in artefacts from home to help support our presentations, which included trophies, photos, books, assorted objects, and artworks. It was so exciting to have our families come into school to share our projects and see if our visitors were smart enough to solve our puzzling crosswords. We also had the opportunity to explore the other classes to see our friends' projects and learn about their hobbies and quirky interests!

Our teachers are very proud of our great start to this year and look forward to the Sovereign Hill camp that awaits us in Term 2. There, we will step into the past and live like students from the 19th century (and even dress like them, too). There might even be the opportunity to test our luck and search for gold. Eureka!

We eagerly anticipate the growth, discoveries, and cherished memories that the rest of the year will bring as we continue our journey of learning and personal development. Have a splendid and safe Easter break ahead!
