Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

Junior Sport Update

The sun has set on yet another Term 1, Summer sport season. While we had a mixed bag of results, what was pleasing to see was the boys’ commitment to training and games, their positive attitude to play each game to its end and ultimately the smiles on their faces while being involved. Congratulations to all boys on a great start to their season. We look forward to seeing you all back for another six weeks in Term 4.

A reminder that Winter Sport Trials commence on Monday 25 March. All Winter sports will be trialing at school venues, with Rugby being held on Breen Oval and all Football on the back ovals. It will be a bit of a tight squeeze, but I am confident of a positive trial period for all boys and coaches. Please see times and dates below:

Boys should wear their colour house PE uniforms for Football trials, along with long socks, shin- pads and boots. Monday 25 March will be a mufti-day, boys in Football are still expected to wear colour house shirt for trials. For Rugby, boys should bring their own jersey as we will be doing contact work; mouthguards, boots, and headgear is optional for all players.

Boys that selected AFL for Winter sport will not need to trial. Due to the numbers, we have enough for one team, so all boys will automatically be selected. I will give them a run before the end of the Term and will meet with them once Year 6 have returned from camp.

Currently, we have a number of boys in the Junior School carrying injuries and as we lead into the Winter season, there are always a few more that get added to the list. When students have injuries, there is a tendency for the boys to wear the Supporter’s uniform for the duration of the injury. However, this is not the proper procedure. The Supporter’s uniform is only to be worn when the injury impedes the student’s ability to put the College uniform on. This, in most cases, revolves around injuries to the hand, arm and shoulders. In the case of lower limb injuries, the Supporter’s uniform would only be worn if a cast or brace made it impossible to pull on trousers or the Junior School grey shorts. On all other occasions boys should be wear the College uniform. In some cases, with ankle or foot injures the College Uniform should be worn with runners for comfort, however this dress should be accompanied by a note/email to Year Coordinators and/or Heads of Sport.
