Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3
Year 5 History
Students have had opportunities to describe and explain the significance of people, groups, places, and events in the development of the Australian colonies throughout the term. They describe and explain different experiences of people living in the Australian colonies and identify change and continuity and describe the causes and effects of change in Australian society. Students sequence events and people in chronological order and represent time by creating timelines. They locate, identify, and use a range of sources to record relevant historical information and examine sources to identify and describe points of view. Students are currently researching and compiling information on one significant individual (Bennelong, Lachlan Macquarie, Caroline Chisholm, and Edward Hargreaves). We are looking forward to observing how they use their knowledge and skills and what their final product will look like before the end of term.
Year 6 Science and Technology
Students have been exploring the ‘Physical World’ strand this term, focusing on the difference between contact and non-contact forces. They have explored and described some common contact or non-contact forces such as friction and air resistance, tension and elastic force and gravity. Students will explore what happens when you increase or decrease the strength of the force. This practical unit of learning aims to provide students with hands-on learning experiences for students to see the application of it in their everyday lives.

I’m really enjoying imaginative writing this term because it allows me to use my creativity and imagination. I have written a narrative on a road trip – Jaycoub F
I’m enjoying Mathematics this term because I’m learning new things such as algorithms to work out problems – Christian R
We are researching a significant individual for History. I’m researching Edward Hargreaves and I've discovered that he was the first person to discover gold in Australia – Antonio F

Throughout Term 1 in History, we have learnt, discussed, and debated about Federation and the leading figures that evolved around it. I have loved learning about the ups and downs of federation and what the colonies' views were – Flynn M
In our great debate regarding Federation, our class was divided up into six colonies. They were New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. I was a representative for Victoria and the task was fun and engaging –
Marcus D
We have been learning about characterisation, juxtaposition and comparing two characters. In class we have been reading the text ‘Matilda’ and analysing the text to find examples of STEAL. STEAL stands for speech, thought, effect, action and look. We really enjoyed writing our own chapter of Matilda - Frank M and Peter T
We have been learning about forces and how they affect everything in our everyday lives. For example, gravity because without it everything would be flying helplessly and we would too! We have been looking at forces and our homework assignment is based on what forces are used in sports and how they affect it. Exploring Newton's laws and how they affect us and our everyday society experiences has been interesting. Examples are Newton's first law: Inertia, which is an object at rest remaining at rest (like how you are in inertia now!) - Isaac G and Daniel W
