ABORIGNAL PERSPECTIVES

National Close the Gap Day

National Close the Gap Day is held on the 3rd Thursday of March every year. This year it falls on the 21st March.

What is National Close the Gap Day?

  • More than a decade ago now, in 2008, the Close the Gap Campaign began National Close the Gap Day (NCTGD)
  • It’s an opportunity for schools, business and communities around Australia to stand with First Australians in demanding health equality for all.
  • The third Thursday of March each year has seen NCTGD grow into a significant national day in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.

How can I get involved with Close the Gap Day?

  • Take action by signing the Close the Gap pledge and asking your friends and colleagues to do the same
  • Call, tweet or write to your local Member of Parliament and tell them that you want them to Close the Gap
  • Listen to and share the stories of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people on social media
