Term 1 Prep Learning

Our Prep's have been busy this term with Reading, Writing, Numeracy, their year 6 buddies, the teddy bear picnic and sorting hat ceremony

Teddy Bear Picnic

Earlier in the month our Prep to Year 2 students had an adventurous morning, reading and sharing stories about their teddies, decorating teddy bear biscuits and having a picnic all together.

Year 3 & 4 News

Term 1 has absolutely flown by for our 3/4s. After settling in and getting to know our classmates and teachers, students have been working hard to improve their persuasive writing. Students have particularly enjoyed creating and using hyperboles (exaggeration) in their writing. They have also created posters about why they love Altona College, some of which will be displayed on Open Night on Tuesday 26th of March.

1/2  Homestead Walk

The grade 1/2 crew had a blast exploring Altona Homestead and diving into our community's past! We checked out old-time clothes, learned how people cooked without electricity, and even saw what toys kids played with back in the day.

After our history lesson, we hit the park for some playtime under the sunny, windy sky. What a perfect day of learning and fun! 🌞💨

Year 5 /6 News

The year 5/6s have had a great start to Term 1. The term has been filled with many curriculum-based activities within the classroom and out.

We started the term getting to know one another really well with our 4-6 camp at Billabong Ranch in Echuca. Although the weather was scorching and the flies were buzzing, we had the best time, with some of the highlight activities horse riding and archery.

Our sport program has been jam packed to say the least. We have had some wins and losses in our Interschool Program with volleyball and basketball, however the kids are determined to finish the term strong. Some students have also had the opportunity to participate in the district swimming and others are training for Cross Country. Athletics day was a successful day where we saw all students push themselves and encourage others to have a go and try their absolute best. We cannot commend the 5/6s enough on their resilience and leadership.

It's not every day we get to head off on an excursion to the Formula 1 Grand Prix. This excursion is not only a great opportunity to participate in a new experience, but also engage in the STEM curriculum and apply their prior knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math.

With term 2 approaching, we have another fun term filled with incursions and excursions.

5 /6 Science

The year 5/6's this year have enjoyed participating in STEM Club with Mrs Kaltmann from Science and Caiden Parker from CSIRO on Thursday lunchtime. They have built catapults and made a Newton's disc to show how light is made from different colours. We had a competition to see whose Catapult went the furthest distance. It has been a lot of fun and next term we are looking at building bridges.
