Girls 1st XI cricket report

On Sunday the 24th of March, 11 girls from Years 8-12 headed across to Hamilton College for the annual first XI T20 competition. Monivae won the toss and sent College into bat. Opening batsmen Matilda and Grace Potter were slow to start with bowling from Sophie Walker, Eloise Millard, Sophie Taylor and Olivia Hardy keeping their bowling very tight. A handy catch from Eloise had the Monivae girls right in the game. Towards the end of a very good innings, Mia Spong and Ella Sevior took some great wickets leaving College 4/113. Best bowling was Ella Sevior 1/4, Sophie Taylor 1/10 and Mia Spong 2/20.

With Monivae going out to bat with 114 needed, they were a very keen group. With college getting an early wicket, Eloise Millard and Alicia Eats steadied the team both making great scores and often finding the boundary. Towards the end of the innings Ella Sevior and Georgia Harris just fell short of 20 runs leaving Monivae 5/92. Best batting Alicia Eats 22, Eloise Millard 24 and Ella Sevior 19, not out. A huge shout out to Georgie Harris (Year 8) and Eloise Millard (Year 9) for coming up and helping us out with batting and wicket keeping. Overall, a very good day full of positivity and encouragement. A big thanks to Ms. Bryon, Ms. Dohle and Ms. Read for helping out on the day and congratulations to the team for putting on a great performance.

GD Athletics

On the 22nd of March, 87 athletes from Monivae were fortunate enough to travel down to Portland for the Glenelg Division athletics to compete against other schools in the area. The sun was out, and it was a perfect day for athletics with the day starting right on time with the 1500’s, everyone was excited and ready to give everything a go. It was great to see that Monivae had a representative in every event and age group which helped give us a good chance on coming out on top at the end of the day.

We’d like to say thank you to Mr. McMahon, Clinton, and Miss Keath for organising everyone on the day and their help running the javelin, as well as Sarah for all the work behind the scenes to get us all there.

Sharnee Hutchison and Brent Mullins

Athletic Captains

I would like to add to the Athletics captains report how impressed Clinton and I were with so many students being prepared to have a go over and above their own events. We had many filling in spaces where people were absent, or races were unfilled. Just like our school carnivals, these points add up to our success and also contribute to the great team feel we had all day.  Great work Sharnee and Brent, for leading the way.

GWR Swimming

Along with the Glenelg Division, on Friday 22nd March, 33 swimmers made the trek north to Horsham. With 15 individual swimmers, we hit the pool with some of the long distance events. A massive effort in the pool saw 4 individual swimmers win their events. Hayley Jellie, Claire Latta, Zak Wan Ullok and our Swimming Captain will now head to the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre for the State Swimming in early Term 2. Our relay teams worked hard and many overcoming nerves to place in the top 3.

Our senior girls team will be also heading to MSAC for their event. A massive thank you to Mrs Rowe and Mr Molan for supporting and transporting the team to Horsham.
