Pen Pals at Scared Heart
We are still waiting to receive our letters from Sacred Heart Community. If students would like to start writing new letters, I am happy to start collecting them. It would be nice to start creating and making some Christmas Cards for the residents with a short note/letter included. Knowing that the aim of these is to bring a smile, I feel that spreading some Christmas cheer could go a long way.
Please talk to your children about the positive impact these letters are having on the Sacred Heart Community residents and encourage them to pen a short letter about themselves or their year. Please send all completed letters to me.
If you do not have an allocated Pen Pal, then please address your letter 'Dear Pen Pal'.
Book Reviews
Picture Story Book : Silver Buttons by Bob Graham
So much can happen in one neighbourhood in one small moment
In a seaside community at 9:59am, a little girl is about to draw the final silver button on her picture of a charming duck. At that exact moment in time her baby brother takes his first step, a soldier farewells his mother, a grandfather plays with his granddaughter, a baby is born and two friends pop seaweed on the beach.
This is a beautiful and gentle story that explores the many wonderful things that can happen in one moment.

Penelope Perfect #2 : Very Private List for Camp Success by Chrissie Perry
Chrissie Perry is an ex SKiPPS parent and this is a series that I enjoyed reading at home with my children. Penelope Kingston is determined not to feel anxious about school camp, even though her last camp was a disaster.
Penelope cried when they had to climb a ridiculously steep and frightening hill. Penelope would never forgive herself if she did that again. To make sure she has a practically perfect camp this year, Penelope has written a Very Private List of rules. And what's rule number one?
No crying. Penelope is a whole year older now. And, more importantly, she has her very own best friend to bunk with. This year is going to be totally different.
If any students have read a book that they would like to review for me, please encourage them to come and talk to me at school.
If you are looking for some new books to read at home, below is a link of the 100 Greatest Children’s Books of all time. It is an amazing list that has plenty of childhood memories mixed in with some more recent titles.
Book Shopping
A reminder that if you are shopping for some new books, please remember to support Readings St Kilda. If you mention that you are a SKiPPS family, they will donate a % of your spend back to the school.
Students in Year 1 and 2 have been learning how to write to instruct. Enjoy these great examples from 1/2L about 'How to Brush Your Teeth'.
