Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Lady Star of the Sea (OLSS) will continue to offer the Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD) program for Years 2-6 in 2025. This program has been running successfully for many years and has proven valuable for students and their learning.
The BYODD program is optional, meaning that if your child currently has a Chromebook or will be receiving one, and with parent permission, they may bring their device to school next year in 2025.
Students participating in this program will be responsible for bringing their Chromebook to and from school each day, allowing them to continue their work at home and recharge their device for the following day. This setup enables students to make the most of their device’s capabilities.
The BYODD program will increase students’ access to technology at school. Students will primarily use their Chromebooks to access the internet, complete assigned work using Google Apps for Education, and utilise other web-based learning applications. Classrooms will also have additional devices available to suit the various needs of tasks prepared by teachers or explored by students.
Please note that if your child does not participate in the BYODD program, they will still have access to school Chromebooks shared among students for completing their work.
Chromebooks are an essential part of daily classroom learning.
These lightweight, relatively inexpensive laptops operate through students' Google CloudShare accounts, allowing easy access to email, documents, and drives with a single sign-on. Using only Chromebooks in the classroom ensures equity among all students. Although a Chromebook is not a compulsory item to bring to school, it is the only device permitted under the BYODD program.
We thank you as always for your cooperation and support!
