Artist of the Week

Each week we celebrate the work of enthusiastic artists:

Amelia Sun

Congratulations to Amelia Sun of 7C who was selected as a KSC Artist of the Week. Amelia was nominated for Artist of the Week by class Art teacher, Ms Crimmings. Amelia completed the  artwork as part of her studies in Year 7 Art. The class assessment task was to create an 'Artist Influenced Work'.

Please read what Amelia has written to describe her art piece.

I drew this artwork inspired by Howard Arkley. I tried incorporating his unique style and use of colours into my own drawing. Since his work was inspired by the 1980s, I tried to add patterns and items into the drawing as well.

2024  Faces of Koonung  – Artist in Schools Project

I would like to express my thanks to the City of Whitehorse who have deemed the Faces of Koonung a worthy and creative Artist in Schools project to fund.

The project, ‘Faces of Koonung’, aims to encourage a culture of creative practice with an emerging local photography artist of the City of Whitehorse. By capturing portraits of individuals within the Koonung community, the project celebrates the diverse cultural backgrounds and identities present in the community.

The Faces of Koonung project, led by emerging local photographer Wilhelm Philipp, celebrates the Koonung community’s diverse cultural backgrounds through portrait photography. By capturing individual stories and identities, the project fosters creative expression, inclusivity, and a deeper appreciation of the community’s cultural richness, promoting a sense of pride and belonging among participants.

Thank you to all the Year 10 Photography students who embraced this project to achieve great results.

Thank you, Wilhelm, for your creativity, enthusiasm, experience, patience, skill, and dedication to the Faces of Koonung project. Your drive and passion were instrumental to its success, and your commitment and extra hours truly made a difference. We could not have achieved this without you.

Thank you to all who supported this project and to those who were able to celebrate with us on the Celebration afternoon.

 Year 7 Artist Inspired Work

In Art this term, students in 7E created pieces inspired by artists they have researched in term 3. The artists researched include historic and contemporary Australian artists such as Mirka Mora, John Brack, Howard Arkley, John Coburn and Kate Beynon. Students used their selected artist as inspiration for their own pieces, exploring and expressing their own ideas, and experimenting with a variety of materials and techniques. Students then presented their works to the class with an artist talk, highlighting how they came up with their ideas and how their researched artists influenced their final pieces. Fantastic work 7E!

Inspire Creativity Over the Holidays with the Very Short Film Festival 🎬

With the holidays just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for students to get inspired during their school break! The 2025 Very Short Film Festival (VSFF) offers an incredible opportunity for young creatives to showcase their talent, and it’s perfect for students with a passion for storytelling and an interest in film.

  • Create a 2–5 minute film in any genre or style that reflects their unique voice.

  • No prior filmmaking experience is needed—students can use a camera or simply a mobile phone to bring their ideas to life.

  • Explore this year’s signature theme, “Seed”—a versatile idea that can be subtly woven into a visual, a line of dialogue, or serve as the spark for a story.

  • Finalists will enjoy mentorship from leading Australian filmmakers, an all-expenses-paid trip to the Premiere Gala Event and Screening, and the opportunity to have their films tour Australia—plus cash prizes and more!

This is an invaluable hands-on experience in filmmaking—ideal for classroom projects or as an exciting extracurricular activity. Students can enter individually or as a group.
