Sport

As the year is nearing to an end, and there is only one sporting event remaining, we thought it would be nice to get some supporting staff and student participants perspectives from their involvement in our representative program 2024.

During the year I have had the pleasure to coach various Bairnsdale Secondary College Boys and Girls teams from Year 7 to Year 12 in Volleyball, Badminton and Table-Tennis. All teams should be proud of their effort and the success achieved. We should aim to improve on our results next year through regular training and increased commitment to our chosen sport. I’d like to thank the students involved this year and look forward to working with them in the years to come.

I’d especially like to acknowledge the Year 7 Boys Table Tennis team who will be playing in the State Finals at MSAC Albert Park on Friday 29th November. The team consists of Kiane, Rahsa, Lukas and Oscar. On behalf of the College, I would like to wish the boys the very best in their quest to be State Champions.

This year I was able to be part of the school’s netball program, which involved our Senior Girls team progressing to the regional level. We had huge numbers turn out for try outs which gave our teams a lot of depth and versatility. We were able to field teams across all ages and genders, coming away with wins, laughs and memories. Being able to be a part of sporting programs gives staff an opportunity to get to know the students in a more relaxed way, where they can share their own interests and knowledge that lie outside core teaching. It also enables students to show staff some of their other talents and passions. Plus, we all know the benefits of active living and Vitamin D. Being able to share my passion for netball with the students and see them grow throughout the days of competition was lovely. Despite the mixed bag of results for the teams, there was a lot of laughter heard around the courts from students and staff. Looking forward to next year's activities.

This year, I have had the privilege of participating in several sports while representing Bairnsdale Secondary College. These sports include cricket, volleyball, district swimming, soccer, girls' AFL, district athletics, and basketball. I have had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed these experiences. I also made new friends along the way. Competing in these events has not only allowed me to work as part of a team but also deepened my understanding of each sport.

Between the training, coming up to the day of the competition and the competition itself, I learned so much. At the end of the day, it didn’t matter whether we won or lost it was great fun, and everyone was very supportive.  I highly encourage everyone to try out and participate in all the school sports they can, as it always offers a great, valuable experience with a lot of fun along the way. Competing in these sports has been a truly wonderful and rewarding opportunity for me and has been a major highlight of my Year 7 experience.

This year, I had the privilege of representing Bairnsdale Secondary College in numerous sporting events. Most notably was the Rocky Trail Academy MTB race, where I achieved a commendable third place. Additionally, I participated in volleyball, soccer, girls' AFL, and basketball.

Reflecting on these experiences, I am truly grateful for the opportunities they provided and the impact they had on me. After the Rocky Trail Academy MTB race at Haunted Hills, I felt a deep sense of appreciation for everyone who attended and contributed to the event’s success. As the sole female participant from Bairnsdale Secondary College, I felt a strong sense of responsibility to perform well, given the expectations that accompanied my unique position. Attending the information session, I was the only girl present, and it motivated me to take the leap and register for the race.
