Year 7 Year in Review – 2024

This year has been an incredible journey of growth, discovery, and adventure for our Year 7 students. From their first steps into high school to their many achievements, 2024 was filled with unforgettable moments and opportunities to shine.

Adventure Awaits – Year 7 Camps

One of the most exciting aspects of the Year 7 experience was the chance to attend one of two incredible camps, each offering its own challenges and adventures.

For some, the first camp at the start of the year was all about pushing boundaries and stepping out of comfort zones. Activities like the snowy river challenge and the giant swing were thrilling highlights. Students navigated the sky bridge, tackled the muddy obstacle course, and braved the cave challenge, forming friendships and memories that lasted all year.

Some of our Indigenous Boys participated in the Clontarf camp, which brought a mix of outdoor challenges and group bonding. Whether sharing stories by the campfire, exploring the great outdoors, or enjoying delicious meals together, the Clontarf camp was a powerful experience that encouraged teamwork and camaraderie.

Musical Milestones

2024 saw many Year 7 students take up instruments and perform with the junior band—the best it’s ever been! The band delivered standout performances at school concerts, August Soirées, the local music festival, and orientation day. A number of students progressed to the intermediate band and even participated in a memorable music tour in Week 6.

Sporting Highlights

Our Year 7 students showcased their sporting talents across a variety of disciplines this year, representing our College in basketball, netball, football, soccer, swimming, athletics, and more. A major highlight was the boys' table tennis team, who made it to the state championships. Other outstanding achievements included Gippsland-level success in athletics and swimming, mountain biking competitions, and even clay target shooting.

Hands-On Learning and Creativity

From the classroom to the workshop, Year 7 students immersed themselves in hands-on learning. Food Technology classes had students baking cookies and pizzas, while Woodwork saw them crafting wooden vehicles. In Textiles, students designed and created their own aprons, and Art classes sparked creativity with ocean paintings and ceramic mugs. Science experiments, systems projects, and dynamic PE lessons kept the learning exciting and engaging.
