PREP

We can’t believe that we are already halfway through Term 4 already and the count down for the end of the year has well and truly started!

This week students have engaged in the swimming program. They have been learning how to safely enter the pool, and all the basis of how to be safe in the water. Our students have had so much fun in the pool, and we are so pleased to see have much they have grown being so independent and responsible at the pool.

In Reading, we have stated our Persuasive unit, we having been reading a range of different books to expose students to a range of different persuasive language and vocabulary. We have also been using different comprehension skills such as making connections with other books, and their own experiences.

In Writing, we are continuing our Persuasive unit. Students are learning about what is an opinion, and to describe reasons that are related to their opinion. Students have also been using persuasive language to either change someone’s mind or convince someone to get them something that they would like.

In Maths, we have started our Sharing unit. Students have been learning about sharing, and making equal groups. We are continuing mass and capacity unit where we practise how to measure the weight of an object by hefting, and describe the amount of objects in a container by using the words full, half full and empty.

The Prep Team

Year 1

Over the past few weeks, Year 1 students have been exploring persuasive texts in reading and writing. They’ve been learning to express their opinions to convince the reader. For each piece, we chose a topic, selected our favourite part of that topic, and explained why we think it’s the best. Students have enjoyed using persuasive language to craft their pieces and have enthusiastically shared their work with the class.

In Math, we’ve been learning about sharing and grouping. Using hands-on materials like unifix blocks and counters, students have practiced dividing amounts equally among groups. We also explored mass by sorting items from heaviest to lightest with the help of balance scales, making comparisons and predictions along the way.

Week 6 brought the excitement of swimming! Students have enjoyed taking the bus to the pool to practice their swimming skills, while others staying at school have been learning about water safety.

We’re all looking forward to our “Stay Late” event next week and can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!

Year 2

The Grade 2 students have been working hard and have successfully completed their persuasive reading and writing unit. They have practiced using rhetorical questions, emotive language, and compelling opening statements to engage their readers. The class has also started reading Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine, and they’ve been hooked by the story right from the first page.

In math, we’ve continued exploring multiplication and division, focusing on the relationship between the two. The students are now beginning to study volume and capacity, and, just like in the mass unit, they are excited for the hands-on activities that lie ahead.

In science, the students had a great time looking at baby photos of themselves and their classmates. They enjoyed comparing the changes and similarities in how they’ve grown, and there was plenty of laughter as they guessed whose baby photo was whose.

The Grade 2 students have also become skilled at cracking codes and learning about different machines and tools during our robot unit. They are looking forward to building their own robots in the coming weeks.

Lastly, the Grade 2 students had a memorable sleepover last Friday. The evening started with setting up their beds and enjoying a pizza dinner. Afterward, they split into four groups to rotate through various activities, including karaoke, parachute games, making fairy bread, and playing dodgeball. They also went on a night walk around the school and watched part of a movie before bed. The next morning, they packed up their beds and enjoyed a breakfast of fairy bread, cereal, toast, and juice. It was a fun and unforgettable night!
