Peer Mentor Program

Last term, our entire Year 8 cohort took part in a Peer Mentor training program focused on developing the skills to lead and support younger students. Following this training, over 50 Year 8 students eagerly applied for a chance to be Peer Mentors for Year 5 students. After a thorough interview process, we selected six outstanding students to join the mentoring team; Mihaela J, Emma W, Gabriel S, Czarlene S, Jacob S and Adhunya J. Congratulations to each of them for their dedication and readiness to take on this important role.

Since the program’s start, we’ve completed our first three mentoring sessions, focusing on qualities like empathy, resilience, team work and leadership. The program not only strengthens the mentors’ skills but also encourages a sense of responsibility and community connection between Year 8 mentors and Year 5 mentees.

At the end of the program, both mentors and mentees will receive certificates of completion, and we’ll host a celebratory session to mark their achievements. Looking forward, the school aims to make this peer mentoring opportunity a yearly tradition, training up a new cohort of mentors each year. Through initiatives like these, we’re reinforcing our commitment to mental health, school connections, and supportive relationships as core priorities for our students.

Lunchtime Clubs

Our lunchtime clubs have been bustling with creativity, strategy, and lively competition this term! The Craft Clubs have introduced new activities like rock painting, diamond art, hula hoop making, and scratch art. A massive thank you to the team at Bunnings for donating supplies that make these projects so engaging and hands-on for our students.

In Gameshow Club, students are pushing their brains to the limit with modified versions of popular games The 1% Club and Alphabucks. Stynes House has been excelling lately, racking up house points with their quick thinking and teamwork!

Chess Club has become a favourite among our Years 7-9 students, who are eagerly taking on new challenges each week. Special thanks to Ms. Veitch for her support and dedication to making Chess Club a success. And a shoutout to Jacob for his recent match with Mr. T, though we won’t reveal the outcome, let's just say the courage it takes to take on a student with such skill!

Our Year 3 and 4 Mario Kart Club has been an absolute hit, with racers and spectators bringing their A-game and cheering loudly every week. Alongside mastering Mario Kart skills, students are building resilience and character, learning how to handle a tough loss with grace, strategize, and come back stronger. The competition is fierce as each house races toward the title of Club Champion.

Year 3 champions:

Stynes:  Aaren

Freeman:  Mohammed

Irwin:  Malha

Newton:  Blake

Congratulations to our Year 3 champions who’ve already claimed victory! Next week, Year 4 will get their turn to shine. A special mention to Nick for courageously stepping up to challenge the Year 3 racers. While the result might remain a secret, it's the bravery to take on the kids that truly counts!

Finally, there’s a rumour that students are eager for a showdown with staff in the grand finals! If you're up for the challenge, students, start convincing your teachers and send their names to Mrs. Meissner—let’s see if the teachers can handle the heat!
