This month we have a multitude of activities that are occurring. Please pay close attention to Compass notifications as each year level has something specific during this timeframe.
Transition Day
On Tuesday 10th December our students from years Prep to Year 5, will find out their classroom teacher and peers for 2025. Many hours are dedicated by our teachers, ES and leadership team in forming the classes. We follow a comprehensive process to provide the best learning conditions for all students. Our team have used their professional knowledge of each student and how they interact at school to determine the placements. All students have been placed with someone that have listed on their preference sheets. For many of our Year 6 students, they too, will experience transition day at their new secondary college.
This can be an exciting and nervous time for some students, and parental support and having open discussions about the placements in a supportive manor often puts each student at ease.
Reports
Staff have almost finalised the reports that are due on Monday 16th December. Please take the time to read through the reports and celebrate the successes and support your child/ren in any future areas for growth.
Website
This week we have launched an update on our website (https://www.somervilleps.vic.edu.au). The website has a new design and an improved ‘back end’ enabling as to add/modify content. Thank you to Steph Cave (www.stephaniecavephoto.com) who took marvellous photos of our school with all for free.
Please take your time to go through the website and familiarise yourself with the layout and content. We also have updated policies that can also be viewed on the site under the families sub-heading.
Wakakirri and Art Show
This year Wakakirri was once again a wonderful success. The dedication from all the students, staff and families can not be underestimated as numerous hours go into the performance.
Given the additional workload and focus mostly on the performing arts, Wakakirri will next be held in 2026. This will happen every second year. In 2025 will showcase other curriculum areas of our school with an Art Show. Plans have already commenced in celebrating the work that students do in the Art room and in classrooms.
Last day of the Year
A reminder that our students finish on 19th December at 3:15pm. This is the final day of the year as staff have a Curriculum Day the next day.
Final Assembly
To wrap up the school year, our final assembly will be held on the basketball courts on 19th December at 9am. We look forward to celebrating the school year at this assembly. All parents and families are welcome to attend.
Christmas Concert
Our Christmas concert will be held on Monday 9th December at 5pm. You are welcome to dress up and join with our students as we spread the festive cheer.
Foundation 2025 Transition Sessions
Our 2025 Preps have participated on two of their four transition sessions so far. The students have been learning about ‘school life’ and developing further friendships.
Year 6 Graduation
Year 6 Graduation is on Monday 16th December. This is a time to reflect on each students’ time in primary school. Information about this event has been sent out to families via Compass.
School Review in 2025
In 2025, Somerville Primary School will be conducting a school review. A School Strategic Plan (SSP) is designed for a four-year period, which looks at the long term goals to improve student achievement, wellbeing and engagement. In Term 2 will review our current SSP and then form the next one.
Students, staff and community members will all be involved in this process and further information will be provided in 2025.
