Student Leadership
Student Leadership: Reflections on 2024
As the year comes to a close, the Junior School Council (JSC) would like to take a moment to reflect on an incredible 2024 at Saltwater College.
This year has been filled with growth, achievements, and moments that have strengthened our school community. Our student leaders have worked tirelessly to represent their peers, bringing new ideas, raising important issues, and helping make our school an even better place.
From leading fundraisers and awareness campaigns to supporting school events like Jeans for Genes Day, Read for Purpose, House Colour Day, and the Spelling Bee. The JSC has been at the heart of many exciting initiatives.
We are especially proud of how our students have embraced leadership opportunities this year. Whether sharing ideas to improve classroom environments, presenting in front of the school community, or participating in sporting achievements, Saltwater’s students' voices have been heard loud and clear.
As JSC representatives, we have also grown as individuals. We’ve learned to work as a team, to listen, and to lead with empathy and courage. The feedback, ideas, and efforts from all students have inspired us to keep pushing forward.
Thank you to our teachers, families, and peers for supporting us throughout this journey.
To the Year 6 leaders, we wish you all the best as you begin your next chapter. To the younger students, we encourage you to step up, share your voice, and continue building a positive, connected school environment.
The JSC is proud of all that we have achieved this year and cannot wait to see what future leaders will bring to Saltwater College.
Please Enjoy reading reflections from our student leaders:
Dear future leaders,
As you step up to these positions, remember that leadership is not just about leading the school it’s about showing yourself out as a good role model, taking on responsibilities and action and just having fun along the way. Being a House Captain this year has been a gift from the day it was announced to when we had athletics day, the positive vibe and energy made it an incredible time. So this is my advice, when you have the chance to make a difference, go for it. You will have so much fun and many opportunities coming your way.

I enjoyed this year being a leader. I liked going to the JSC meetings with all the other leaders.
Be kind and helpful to others. My favourite thing was talking to classes around the school about the Christmas raffle.

Future leaders will shape our school with their vision, knowledge, and commitment to making a positive impact on students and communities. We will strive to enhance our school and community.

I would like to give some advice for future JSC, like being a risk taker. And at the end we got a pizza party.

I believe that being a good leader consists of being a respectful, responsible, and open-minded person. A leader is a being that shows many reasons to stick up for the RIGHT thing and fix/improve the WRONG. It takes many attributes to become a leader, the main attribute a leader has to consistently display a role that shows that they’re responsible, wise, and kind when it comes to advising the younger pupils of this school, this is our advice as well. I think the best thing we worked on this year in JSC was house colour day because everyone got involved. These interactive events improve the confidence of leaders in this school.

Things it takes to be a leader...

Creativity
Role Model
Confidence
Communication
Kindness
Respect

“I liked helping with the mini-Olympics and being able to display my responsibility.”
“I enjoyed being a role model for younger students and inspiring others.”

Some advice I would give future leaders is to be creative and think of ideas to improve the school. You should also try to respect your classmates ideas too! You should also come to JSC meetings, and not be like me who missed 3 and a half terms... Some things it takes to be a leader is discipline, respect and the ability to work collaboratively. My favourite part of this year as a leader has been when I was first appointed as Class Captain and the feeling of joy I felt.

To the future leaders of Saltwater,
there are many attributes of being a student leader, but the most important ones are participations and problem solving. You should know how to assist people because you are expected to be looked up to and followed. The best parts of this year have been going to the leadership conference.

Being a leader is just what I’m good at. Be a leader, because the longer you are being a leader, the better you are at being a leader.
I think that being a leader is very important in Saltwater College. Because if there were no leaders, everything would be out of place.
I enjoyed being a leader and participating in all of the Junior School Council activities and learning about school tours.
This year, I enjoyed being a part of the Junior School Council, because it gave me opportunities to do what I’m good at.
