Year Six
Dear Year 6 Families,
As we approach the end of another incredible year, it is time to reflect on the remarkable achievements, events, and milestones that made 2024 a truly memorable year for our school community.
Canberra Camp
This year’s Canberra Camp was an unforgettable adventure for our Year 6 students. Exploring our nation’s capital gave students a deeper understanding of democracy and governance, complementing their learning in our transdisciplinary unit, Government systems may support the rights of citizens. Visits to Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, and Questacon brought their classroom learning to life, fostering both curiosity and civic awareness.
Ranch Camp
Our Ranch Camp gave students the opportunity to connect with nature, challenge themselves, and build strong relationships. From horseback riding to team-building activities, students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, displaying resilience and teamwork. These experiences contributed to their growth as confident, capable individuals ready to take on new adventures.
VR Incursions
Technology took center stage this year with our engaging VR Incursions. Students stepped into immersive worlds that allowed them to explore concepts such as Movement of people and how international organisations help solve human conflicts in vivid, interactive ways. These sessions sparked meaningful conversations and deepened their understanding of global issues.
Transdisciplinary - Units of Inquiry
This year, students successfully completed six transdisciplinary units, showcasing their ability to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively. Highlights included:
The Arts may reflect and challenge society: Students explored how creativity can inspire change and provoke thought.
Scientists and Engineers work together to change the world: Hands-on experiments highlighted the power of innovation.
Our rights and responsibilities change from childhood to adolescence: A reflection on their own personal growth and societal roles.
Government systems may support the rights of citizens: Practical learning during Canberra Camp enriched this inquiry.
International organisations help solve human conflicts: Students examined global partnerships through research and collaboration.
Movement of people impacts the culture they leave behind and the culture they come to: Personal stories and community connections brought this topic to life.
Junior School Council
Our Junior School Council continued to lead the way in fostering student voice and agency. From organising fundraisers to planning events, these young leaders have shown maturity and initiative, setting a positive example for their peers.
House Captains
Our House Captains excelled this year, inspiring their teams to participate in various house competitions and fostering a spirit of camaraderie. Their leadership was instrumental in building a sense of belonging and school pride throughout the year.
Christmas Carols
The festive spirit came alive during our Christmas Carols evening, which brought the school community together for a magical night of music and celebration. Students, staff, and families joined in to spread holiday cheer, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Statewide Transition
Our Statewide Transition program ensured a smooth and supportive transition for students entering secondary school in 2025. Feedback from students and families highlighted the value of this program in building confidence and excitement for the next stage of their educational journey.
Graduation
As we close the chapter on 2024, we are filled with pride for all that our students, staff, and families have achieved together. Thank you for your continued support, enthusiasm, and dedication to our vibrant school community. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2025 for another year of growth, discovery, and success.
