Year Three
Dear Year Three Families,
Can you believe we’ve reached the end of the year already? It feels like just yesterday that the students were stepping into their Year Three classrooms for 2024, and now, here we are, reflecting on how much they’ve grown. We are incredibly proud of every single student in our cohort. The knowledge and skills they have gained throughout the year will prepare them well for their next educational journey as they step into Year Four in 2025.
As we bid farewell to our amazing 2024 Year Three classes, we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all parents and guardians. Your support and open communication have been invaluable in making this year a success—we couldn’t have done it without you.
Reading
In the lead-up to the year’s end, students revisited key reading strategies such as summarising, synthesising, and identifying the main idea and message. These activities reinforced their comprehension skills.
Students also explored texts related to their Unit of Inquiry, “Components of ecosystems are interdependent.” They examined non-fiction materials, synthesising key elements and determining themes to deepen their understanding of ecosystems.
Writing
To conclude their final weeks in Year Three, students have been engaged in planning and crafting their own narratives. They have thoroughly enjoyed working through the various sections of a story, including the orientation, climax, and resolution. Using the writing process—planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing—they created their final pieces.
Additionally, students wrote letters to their 2025 teachers, sharing insights into their hobbies and interests. Their future teachers were thrilled to receive these letters and wanted to express their excitement about teaching this wonderful Year Three group next year.
Maths
As the year wrapped up, students explored the concepts of angles and tessellations. They embraced the role of 'angle detectives,' identifying various angles in their surroundings. Students also enjoyed creating tessellation patterns, which allowed them to apply their mathematical understanding in a creative way.
Inquiry
Students concluded their Unit of Inquiry, “Components of ecosystems are interdependent,” by exploring the impact of human activities on ecosystems. To take meaningful action, they organised a fundraiser to support animal conservation efforts, successfully raising $220.50.
The students enjoyed creating posters and using digital tools to demonstrate their understanding of the central idea. This unit highlighted their ability to connect learning with real-world action.
Passion Project Showcase
One of the highlights of the term was the Passion Project Showcase, where students had the opportunity to share a new skill or knowledge they had developed about something they are passionate about. From dancing and art to sports and science, the students amazed their peers and teachers with their creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication. It was a joy to see them confidently presenting their projects, and it fostered a sense of pride and curiosity in the entire class.
Christmas Carols
A big congratulations to all students who participated in the Christmas Carols performance last week. It was wonderful to see so many families gathered on the oval, celebrating the festive season. The performances were a resounding success, and the joy on the students’ faces was unmistakable. The choreography, designed by their teachers, added an extra touch of magic to the event.
Year Three Reminders:
