Year One
2024
Dear Year One Community,
And just like that, the year is over! It’s hard to believe that after all the hard work we have done and the fun times we have had this year, it has finally come to an end. We will miss our Year Ones, but we are looking forward to watching all the great things they will achieve in the future!
Reading:
In Reading, students have continued working on inferring. Inferring is an important skill that students will need to use for the rest of their lives! Students have been using text and picture clues to determine what is happening in a text and then have used that information to answer questions about the text. Students have also been looking at how punctuation can impact how we read out loud They have been practising changing their voice when characters are talking and when they encounter punctuation such as exclamation marks. We have also been continuing to look at digraphs, and students have been searching for words that contain these digraphs in texts they are reading. Please remember to keep up your reading over the holidays!
Writing:
In Writing, we have just finished our narrative unit. Students have created a range of wonderful and creative stories, and we have been so impressed with what they have achieved! In the last week of this unit, students were given the opportunity to write a narrative about anything they liked. Some amazing narratives were written. Students first planned their narratives using a story map, then wrote their narratives, before finally publishing them. We have a great bunch of little writers in Year One!
Maths:
In Maths, we have concluded the year by focussing on Location. Students had some fun by using our Bee Bots to assist with their understanding of Location. We have been practising giving and interpreting simple directions to get from one location to another. This is something you can continue to practise over the holidays. In the last couple of weeks, we have spent time revising important Number concepts such as place value, addition, and subtraction.
Inquiry:
In Inquiry, we have just finished our final unit in which we have been exploring the Sun, Moon, & Earth. Students concluded the unit by looking into their wonderings from earlier in the term. We researched these wonderings and presented the information we found to our peers. Students have loved this unit and have really enjoyed exploring these concepts!
End-of-Year Activities:
As the year draws to a close, we have been very busy with a range of fun and exciting activities. Students loved practising and presenting their items for our Christmas Carols, and they all did an amazing job. We are so proud of all the students and teachers for putting on an amazing show. Students have also been enjoying their end-of-year celebrations and have had so much fun!
Thank You:
Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to all students, parents, and teachers for a wonderful year. We would like to wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday and we are looking forward to seeing you all around the school next year!
