In Literacy we have been learning about the structure and language of an Information Report. Students have been learning about the structure expectations for Year 3 which includes: title, introduction, main body (2 descriptive paragraphs) and the inclusion of related images or labelled diagrams. Last week we co-constructed an information report about our school. We drafted, reviewed, and published our Information Report. This week students will be creating their own information reports based on a given topic. They will have the opportunity to apply all of the knowledge and skills we have learnt over the last few weeks about information reports. We can’t wait to see the published pieces!
In Knowledge, we have been learning about our First Nations people and how European settlers impacted their way of living. Students have loved learning about the history, traditions and stories of our First Nations peoples. They have explored different dreamtime stories and the lessons that they teach. We have begun exploring what life was like for those who travelled in the First Fleet and the challenges faced on the long journey.
In Numeracy, we have been learning about Number Patterns. We have been focusing on using our knowledge of addition and subtraction to complete number patterns, which are increasing or decreasing, with a given rule. We have also been identifying the rule of a number pattern by finding whether it is increasing or decreasing and then completing the number pattern. The next step for our learning will be creating our own number patterns for a given rule.
In Numeracy, we have also been learning about units of measurement. We have started learning about the different units of measurement for length, including millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres. We have enhanced our knowledge by matching the length of objects with the most appropriate unit. Next, we will be exploring units of measurement for mass and capacity using the same skills.
In SEL we have been focusing on Empathy. We have been thinking about how we can show kindness to ourselves, others and the planet. We looked at what we currently do to be kind to ourselves, others and the planet and focused on ways that we can improve on that kindness. Students came up with some ideas about how they can be kinder.
In Auslan we have been learning about the signs for people and sport. Students were very enthusiastic about learning the different signs for their favourite types of sport that they like to play or watch on TV. Students practised signing their favourite sport to their friends and participated in a game of four corners where they needed to remember the different signs they learnt.
On Tuesday 3rd December we are very excited to be having Auslan Education Services, our Auslan program provider visit our school. Each class will have the an opportunity to meet and interact with a Deaf person. The team attending on the day will be a Team Leader, a Deaf team member, and an Interpreter. The Deaf team member will begin by presenting to the children about their life as a Deaf person, followed by signing with the students, and some question time. This will be a valuable incursion as this may be students’ first interaction with a Deaf person and gives them their first look at Deaf culture. Each year level will have a 30-minute session on the day.
