In Literacy, we have finished learning all our chitter chatter sounds in Stage 7.4 Little Learners Love Literacy, which means we have learnt all the sounds. We have been learning that u can also make an oo sound such as u-e as in rude, ew as in blew, ue as in blue, and ui as in juice. We have continued learning about silent letters such as wr as in write, and mb as in climb.
In Writing, we finished our unit on Information Texts and are so proud of the pieces of writing we were able to complete. Take a look below:
This term, we have been learning the difference between fact and opinion by exploring language choices. We have been responding to questions using this language and sharing our reasons.
In Knowledge, we have finished our Geography of Australia unit. We can name the six states and two territories, identify their location on a map and list their English and Indigenous capital city names. In each state and territory, we have also explored famous landmarks both human-made and natural.
In Numeracy, we are continuing our unit on money. We have been counting mixed collections of coins and notes to find the value, understanding that collections over one dollar need a decimal point.
We are expanding our knowledge of patterns by discussing number patterns using a rule from any starting point. We have practice counting forwards and backwards by counting with tens, fives and twos.
In SEL, we have been continuing to explore Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy. We have been doing so by thinking about different emotions in response to events, including how ours can differ from someone else. We also have been describing how we respond to receiving acts of kindness.
In Auslan, we have been learning more animal signs such as zoo animals. We have also been expanding our vocabulary with ‘wh’ questions.
On Tuesday 3rd December we are very excited to be having Auslan Education Services, our Auslan program provider visit our school. Each class will have the an opportunity to meet and interact with a Deaf person. The team attending on the day will be a Team Leader, a Deaf team member, and an Interpreter. The Deaf team member will begin by presenting to the children about their life as a Deaf person, followed by signing with the students, and some question time. This will be a valuable incursion as this may be students’ first interaction with a Deaf person and gives them their first look at Deaf culture. Each year level will have a 30-minute session on the day.
