Dear Gilgai Plains Primary School Families,

 

The end of the year is fast approaching, and we are preparing for our first ever school productionThe Wizard of Oz! Our talented students are busy rehearsing and preparing for this magical performance, which will take place on Friday 6th December. We can't wait to showcase the hard work and creativity of our students!

 

As part of the production, we are asking each class to dress up in a costume representing characters from the beloved Wizard of Oz story. Below is a breakdown of each year group's costume requirements to ensure that everyone is ready for their big moment on stage!

 

Costume Guidelines by Year Group:

Foundation Students

  • Costume: Munchkins

Details: Our youngest performers will take on the roles of the adorable Munchkins. Please see the example image for inspiration.

 

Year 1A, 1B, and 1C

  • Costume: Witches and Wizards

Details: Students in these classes will be dressing as witches and wizards from the magical world of Oz. Feel free to get creative with hats, robes, and wands!

 

Year 1D, 1E, 1F, and 1G

  • Costume: Scarecrows

Details: These students will bring the Scarecrow to life! Consider patchwork clothes, straw accents, and a floppy hat.

 

Year 2A, 2B, and 2C

  • Costume: Tinman

Details: The Tinman’s shiny appearance is key! Please ensure that costumes are silver or metallic. A funnel-shaped hat is a great addition!

 

Year 2D, 2E, 2F, and 2G

  • Costume: Lions

Details: Students will dress as the brave Lion from Oz. Think about fluffy manes, tails, and golden hues.

 

Year 3A, 3B, and 3C

  • Costume: Any character from The Wizard of Oz

Details: These students have the freedom to choose any character from the story, whether it’s Dorothy, the Wicked Witch, Glinda the Good Witch, the Cowardly Lion, or even Toto!

 

Year 3D and 3E

  • Costume: Sports Theme

Details: These students will dress in a sporty theme, combining the magic of Oz with their love of sports. Whether it’s a football player, tennis star, or Olympic champion, it’s time to get creative!

 

Year 4A and 4B

  • Costume: Witch or Wizard

Details: These students will dress as witches or wizards from Oz. We encourage students to bring their most magical outfits, complete with hats, cloaks, and wands!

 

Year 4C, 4D, and 4E

  • Costume: Flying Monkeys

Details: The flying monkeys are a fun and iconic part of Oz! These students will dress as the mischievous monkeys with wings and fun monkey features.

 

Year 5A and 5B

  • Costume: Any character from The Wizard of Oz

Details: Like Year 3, students can choose any character from the story to bring to life on stage. Let your imagination soar!

 

Year 5C and 5D

  • Costume: Dress to Impress

Details: Students in these classes will be dressing to impress in their best outfits. Think formal, fancy, or show-stopping!

 

Year 6A, 6B and 6C

  • Costume: Full School Uniform + Year 6 Jumpers

Details: Our Year 6 students will be showcasing their school pride by wearing their full school uniform along with their Year 6 jumpers.

 

Important Reminders:

  • Please ensure your child is comfortable in their costume and can move easily for the performance.

Rehearsals will be taking place throughout the next few weeks, costumes do not need to be worn until the performance night. Times will be announced in the coming week. 

 

We are so excited about this year’s production and the chance to come together as a school community to celebrate the Arts. Thank you for your support in making this production a memorable one for all of our students. We can’t wait to see you there and share the magic of The Wizard of Oz!
