Principal’s Message

We are now half way through Term 4 and what a busy few weeks we've had!

Gilgai Plains presents “The Wizard Of Oz.”

Just a reminder that you are invited to our production of The Wizard Of Oz on Friday 6th December. Every student is participating in our production and have been very busy rehearsing their parts during their Performing Arts sessions and some, during lunch and recess.

The production will be an outdoor theatre spectacular under our new court cover, from 6pm -8pm. Families are advised to eat their dinner at home before they arrive as there will be no opportunity to eat during the production.

More information will be coming home over the next few weeks. We are really excited about this special event and hope that everyone can join us.

Please check out ‘The Arts’ page of this newsletter for costume guidelines.

Camping Program

We had a very busy week in Week 3 with our Years 4, 5 & 6 students attending camp and our Year 2s having their Big Day In. We still have our Foundation Breakfast and Year 3 Big Day Out to look forward to later this term.

Year 2 Big Day In

Our Year 2 students arrived at school full of excitement. They had the opportunity to participate in a range of activities which included Climb’N Slide, Zorb chamber, Games Cube and Nerf zone. The student had a delicious Pizza lunch and afterwards participated in a scavenger hunt. After that busy day, they finished off with a movie.

Year 4 Camp

78 students attended camp at Sovereign Hill. The students were able to be fully immersed in the 1850s and participated in educational classes in 1850s classrooms, visited shops and exhibits down the main street. The night was capped off with the Aura Sound and Light Show. This was most students (and teachers) highlight from the camp. Our 2025 Year 4s are booked once again.

Year 5 & 6 Camp

126 students attended camp at Phillip Island.  Students completed outdoor adventure activities including team building exercises. Our students were also involved in the setting and clearing up for all of our meals. Next Year our Year 5s will go to Phillip Island and our Year 6s will go to Portsea.

Thank you to our staff for all the work they have put into organising our camping program. Our staff provided our students with some amazing opportunities and experiences which will live on in their memories forever.

Foundation Transition

Last week, we held our first transition session for our Foundation students for 2025. This year our sessions are held after school and this has worked really well. Thank you to Theircare who put on some afternoon tea for our families outside Hub 2.

New Year 2 Playground

The Year 2 playground is well underway. We are expecting that it will be another week before completion. This playground will be allocated to the Year 2 cohort during school time but will be open to families and friends to use on weekends.

Student Placement for 2025 classes

Over the next few weeks, our staff will be busy constructing the classes for next year. When classes are constructed, we consider the academic and social and emotional needs of each child in order to have balanced cohorts that can be supported by their teacher. It is not possible for parents to request a teacher; however, if you have any concerns or questions about your child’s academic or wellbeing needs that you would like to discuss, please speak with your child’s teacher within the next week. The teacher knows your child well and can provide insight into their needs at school.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
