Foundation

The Foundation students have been working hard on completing their Indonesian placemats.  We have been learning basic Indonesian vocabulary for weather, colour, numbers, body parts, months of the year and days of the week.

Year 1

This term the Year 1’s have been learning about Indonesian folk tales and the connections to their daily lives.  Recently we have been learning the days of the week through song, word quizzes and games.  They created their own days of the week dice and tested their peers.  Soon we will be learning the months of the year.

Year 2

Recently the Year 2’s have been learning about the traditional Indonesian art form of Batik. They learnt about the Batik process, were shown examples and produced their own improvised, authentic work of art.

Year 3

The Year 3’s have been focussing on simple greetings in Indonesian.  We then started learning about some of the flora & fauna in Indonesia particularly around the Komodo Dragon.   Soon we will be learning about the traditional art of making shadow puppets in Indonesia and the students will create their own.

Year 4

The Year 4’s have recently been learning about Cultural Awareness in Indonesia.  We have been looking at similarities and differences in culture between Australia and Indonesia.  Our main focus has been the language but we have also discussed farming, plants, food, housing, transport and education.

Year 5

The Year 5’s have been focussing on Indonesian History and contemporary culture.  We have been learning about the fascinating nature of Indonesian History from around the 8th Century and how it has shaped Indonesia’s identity.  We have also been watching a Indonesian Movie about a young girl in Indonesian society with many discussion points in regards to language, religion, clothing, music and body language.

Year 6

The Year 6’s have been working hard on creating their books in Indonesian.  They wrote about their family, daily routine, friends and pastimes in Indonesian.  They did exceptionally well with their reading assessments at the end of last term and completed an open-ended cultural task to test their cultural knowledge. We have now started our Indonesian Village Games theme where we play cooperative and competitive cultural games played by Indonesian children of their own age.
